My retinas were detaching. A side-effect of my medication, I think, or maybe it started before that, it’s hard to know. The virus and the treatment for the virus blended together. This was fantastic, and the human and selkie-like parts so believable handled (for fantasy).

My own skin was a mask of nettles.
This was terrific phrasing, as was the idea of the world looking like fish swimming in darkness (little bits of light and motion where little else can be seen).

Amazing work!

The dark fish thing was the first image that came to me, before the plot or anything else. When retinas peel away, you really do get black floating things in your vision --people usually compare them to crows and starlings, but I thought a selkie would sooner think of fish.

Also, I live near a very deep lake with very black fish in it, and they move around just under the surface in these huge schools. The first time I was out on the water and one of those schools swam around and under me...it made quite an eerie impression.

I like that line too. :3
