She sounds quite bright, although I'm not surprised. Though my memory of these things has faded (I assumed I'd remember everything, so didn't really write anything down. Now it's all a blur...), the pacifier thing sounds quite impressive for a not-quite 5 month old. Post more pictures of her! She's adorable.

Bravo!

Sadly, I too know little of stages of development, but that sounds pretty darn smart to me!

I don't think you scraped off a surface mount component. They aren't that easy to scrape off. It is pretty common in electronics to not place all the components. It may have just been a parallel capacitor that wasn't needed. So they decided to take it off and save $0.005

Could be. I scraped the board pretty hard, but then the thing is still functioning properly - better I think for having replaced the dried and uneven paste with a nice clean layer of Arctic Silver - so you're probably right.

Carcassone the board game, or do they have a computer version too?

Well, we have the board game (plus a few expansions, whee!) but there is a version downloadable from the Xbox 360 arcade, and while it's not the same as setting it up on a table, it does save the hassle of sorting out the tiles and counters and whatnot. Has catchy music as well. And it's online playable, so if you happen to have a 360...... ^^
