If you live in Taiwan, there is no doubt that you have heard song 不得不愛 ("Can't Resist You" is the official English title), by some guy named Wilbur Pan (潘瑋柏) at least one hundred billion times ( Read more... )

Backdorm Boys? That's the sketchiest name EVER-- at least the Backstreet Boys could've been drug dealers in addition to being whores. The name Backdorm Boys sounds like a pornographic title or something-- really, it might as well be Schoolgirls Gone Wild! OK, boys, perhaps.

But yeah, lip-syncing...They would have to resort to that, I suppose...After all, how could they dance so energetically otherwise? The extra effort might make them perspire so much that their makeup would melt.

Gotta love Asian Pop!

The article in Slate is pretty good, though I believe most (Chinese/Taiwanese) people viewed and forwarded those 'home-made' lip-syncing videos simply think those as funny stuff which make others laugh or relax a bit... As far as I remember, with the good development of Karaoke and Internet in Japan, Japanese people (or I should say some Japanese high school girls) started this kind of lip-syncing first (I mean in Asia). I won't say this would be anything about "passing the superpower torch". People who did that just want to "entertain" themselves and others. They use that way to SHOW themselves...

Oh, I like to listen to "不得不愛", though it's just a love song for people who are under erm...maybe 25 years old... I like the melody and the girl's voice is quite good.

Actually, I am under 25 for another eight months.

I think that thing about the superpower torch was supposed to be a joke, by the way.
