Well, I tailor-make them for my frames, so I go through the selection -- expand portion. Then use the pen tool to draw three points: select the outer length I want for the frame, hold down shift, click above the corner, then hold shift again and click for height; gets you straight lines framing the corners.
I deselect the rectangle, right-click, stroke path (thin, 1-2px sized brush of random shape, opacity and hardness selected, simulate pressure to get the feathering effect). Duplicate this layer three times and flip/rotate about the four corners. Merge the layers and add a 0-size-0-distance drop shadow at 35% to 60% depending. Easy. :)
