They told me, don’t go walkin’ slow, ’cause devil’s on the loose.

When Cristoff woke he was confused. He did not wake quickly and cleanly as he normally does, the byproduct of a life of crime is nervousness about being caught sleeping. Instead he felt like he had slept on the ground and drank an entire jug of wine. Strangely the part about sleeping on the ground seemed to be true. There was a sore place on ( Read more... )

We watch the Gypsy as he becomes awake and frees himself of the shackle we had put upon him. I would have liked to make him pay for his crimes as soon as we had him in custody, but that would not have been very sporting, now would it? I motion quietly to Blankenship and Rosetti to fan out and circle him, keeping in my position behind a tree.

I am still confused as to why I am here but the knives are comfortable weights in my hands, though I have not held them in over a decade they are still the perfect weight and size.

I can hear more than one set of feet moving through the brush, but quietly, hard to place especially with my head still fogged from the drug they gave me.

"Tell me what I am doing here at least."

I move into place, we are not used to moving in the country but three against one he doesn't have the advantage. Readying my gun I signal I am in place.

Circling around the other way, seeing the gypsy testing his blades in his hand. He will not stand a chance agaist the gun I have aimed at his heart at the moment. He will not get past us today.

Coming upon the body of poor Rosetti, I kneel beside him for moment, bringing my hands over his eyes to close them. My anger at this act is a hot ball of fire in the pit of my stomach, and with a low growl I get up and make my way to where Blankenship if firing his weapon uselessly into the distance.

Putting a hand upon his arm, my eyes meet his so as to make him stop and I pull him behind a tree with me so I can hiss into his ear. "Fool, you are a target standing out there wasting your ammunition! We must flush the mongrel out again, then we shall fire upon him until we have no bullets left."

Letting the Chiefs word sink in I lower my weapon, metally beratting myself for making a stupid mistake. Following his lead we move silently, listening for any signs off where our prey has hidden himself.

We hear some rustling ahead and silently the Chief signals for me to get into a position where he can not fall behind us.

I can hear them coming again, they have stopped shooting but I do not fool myself that they are out of bullets. I cannot be fully silent while moving, so I will make as much noise as possible. Using my foot I shove a large branch down a small hill and move in the opposite direction, at least they will have to split which way they wish to go.

When the branch stops so do I, crouched behind a tree shifting one of the knives into a throwing grip.

Hearing movement to my left I turn quickly, my gun raised as I get behind a tree waiting for it to stop. Blankenship has gone further off to my right and I watch him do the same. For a moment all is silent and I listen for signs of the Gypsy's position. He is a wiley one, but I will not fail my brothers in this task for justice.

I hear no further movement, but I know our quarry is either within my reach or Blankenship's. As silently as I can, I pick up a small fallen stick and throw it into the nearby underbrush in front of the tree I am using for cover. If he is hiding there, I will attempt to make him give himself away.
