((Shamelessly hijacked from
starterkid. I started working on this Monday and just now finished it... *sigh*))
Part 1: The Basics
1. What is your full name?
Ratchet. We Cybertronians don't have surnames, though if there's a need to differentiate if we meet someone with the same or similar name, rank or profession can be used... In which case I'd be Autobot Field Tech Ratchet.
2. Where were you born?
I was SPARKED *ahem* on Cybertron in the Autobot Capital of Iacon. That was where the All Spark was kept for the longest time and thus it's where most were sparked vorns back.
3. How old are you?
Old. REAL old. Older than the human race, older than most other bots still alive. Ultra Magnus is the only mech I know of who has me beat in the way of age.
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
Real siblings are rare among my kind. So no...I don't.
5. Do you have any dreams?
Peace on Cybertron and Earth. I'd like the latter to be a place where Sari can grow up without worrying about war or environmental disasters.
6. Where do you live now, and with whom?
I currently reside with the rest of Optimus Prime's team in Detroit, Michigan in an old factory that we converted into a base of operations. Besides myself and Prime, the team's made up of Prowl, Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Wreck-Gar, Communique and Sari.
7. What is your occupation?
Combination team medic and engineer. I am also the acting second-in-command (and unofficial "drill sergeant" some would say).
8. To which social class do you belong?
Autobot, working class.
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
Nope, save for just being a tad slower than I used to be. Sometimes the old joints complain a little bit after a long day in the field.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
Ambidextrous.
11. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
"What the slag?"
"Oh, for spark's sake!"
12. What clothes style do you wear?
I don't wear clothes! ...although my alt mode has me with a mostly red and white color scheme.
13. What do you have in your pockets?
Compartments? The usual. All my on-board medical tools, a spare flask of mid-grade energon, my PINpoint device and a couple of data pads.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Well, I've been told I've got bad bedside manner for a doctor. I guess that could be because I've gotten a little bitter in my old age. I've also gotten to the point where I sometimes creak when I move, no matter how much effort I put into joint upkeep. Just a sign of age.
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
I didn't really HAVE a childhood. Cybertronians are sparked as protoforms and mature from there.
16. What is your earliest memory?
Being given an aptitude test to find out what my interests were, what my personality at the time was like... A lot of it was confusing because the world was still so new to me at the time, but it did put the idea in my head that I wanted to help others and heal the wounded.
17. How much schooling have you had?
I'm a graduate of Protihex Mechanics Medical University.
18. Did you enjoy school?
For the most part. Sure, it was rough at points, but I think I'm a better bot for it.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
At the University, but I got much of my real world training in the field, especially during wartime. There are some things text books can't teach, as humans would say...
20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
Well, there were a couple of professors at the University I looked up to... One in particular who was my assigned personal mentor before graduation. His name was Paradigm and he was one of the most experienced and knowledgeable instructors in the school. If you had questions, he always had answers. Before the war ended, I used to think the world of Ultra Magnus, as well. He was wise, take charge and one of the few bots who would really go head to head with just about any Decepticon. After the incident with Lockdown, I started to think less of him. He just didn't see the outcome as the tragedy that I did. Recently, my opinion of him has improved, however. Sentinel Prime may be a loud-mouthed egomaniac, but at least Magnus recognized where Sentinel was wrong and Optimus was right.
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
No family, remember?
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Alright, I give up on correcting the "when you were a child" bits. And we've covered this... A healer.
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
I took my studies seriously, but I also liked to party when I was in the mood for it. Those were the days when I learned to really hold my high-grade.
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
I was young, eager, curious and stupid. But at least I can also say I was honest and sincere about a lot of things.
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
I got along alright with the other students at the University. There were a few who didn't like me much because I was usually at the head of the class, but there were others who appreciated my smarts and talents.
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
Early on in my school career, I got suckered into a game humans could equate to "spin the bottle." I don't even remember the femme's name, but at least she was a good sport about having to kiss my ugly mug.
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
Er, no... No. There was a femme in my graduating class who I rather liked and who I think was foolish enough to sort of like me in return. Her name was Lifeline. The two of us got a little too smashed at the post-graduation celebration, one thing led to another and...ah...yeah. I think part of it was that we figured we wouldn't see much of each other once we found work outside the University. I'll have to say that I don't remember much about what happened that night and it might be for the better. Both of us were so hammered that neither of us were worth much by the time we stumbled into that storage room...
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
Well, I don't see the first as applicable, sooo... That whole incident with Lockdown was what made me decide to eventually leave Cybertron. I guess if I can thank that greedy glitch for one thing, it's causing me to eventually meet Optimus Prime, our current team and finding my place here in Detroit.
Part 3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
Leaving Cybertron and joining the space bridge repair crews. It closed one long chapter in my life and opened another.
30. Who has had the most influence on you?
I don't think anyone Cybertronian or human has influenced me more than any other. Obviously some of the professors at the University, but some of my current team members as well. Prime, Prowl and Communique especially. And then there's Sari. For child, she's got a lot of wisdom to offer. And Eleven... One of those closest to me, who for a time who taught me that it's okay to be compassionate again.
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Surviving the Great War. There aren't many who can actually claim that, unfortunately.
32. What is your greatest regret?
There are too many to name. Failing to protect Arcee from Lockdown. Not telling Kay I loved her all those vorns ago before war's end. Losing Eleven...
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
In recent memory, savagely beating Lockdown. It was to save Optimus as the Decepticons sent that blasted bounty hunter to capture him, but only in part. I really did want vengeance. And not only did I thrash him soundly, but I caused his shuttle to crash in the river... I may be a doctor, but I can and will deal out physical punishment if necessary to those who bring harm to my team, my patients or the innocent. And I have no patience for someone who harms others for the sake of financial gain and upgrades, much less for someone who strapped me to a table and tore out one of my personal modifications to claim as a hunting trophy.
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
No. I shouldn't.
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
Do you want a list or what? I've been alive a long time and have had plenty of opportunities to have the energon scared right out of me! The worst and most recent scare was Megatron's return, but that would scare the oil out of any Autobot with half a functional processor.
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
Two words. "Bumblebee" and "pranks."
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
So many choices... I would have told Eleven to stay home that day she went to the Nexus and didn't come back.
38. What is your best memory?
Getting together with Kay! Times have been rough, but in the middle of all the darkness, she's one of the few shining stars in my life.
39. What is your worst memory?
Recently... Threatening Eleven. I lost my temper. And really, I meant to threaten Two more than I meant to threaten the pup. If she ever does manage to remember the home she had in Detroit, she'll remember that I once promised to never intentionally bring her to harm. I indirectly went back on that promise and there are no words to describe how horrible I feel about it.
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
Oh, I'm a pessimist. No doubt about that.
41. What is your greatest fear?
That we'll ultimately fail to stop Megatron and a whole new war will start up with Earth caught right in the middle...
42. What are your religious views?
The All Spark, even dispersed, is life. But we don't really treat it as a god of any sort... More like relic of immeasurable power. I've always thought that something before the All Spark had to create it, but...eh, I'm not sure what.
43. What are your political views?
I don't know too much about Earth politics just yet, but I've always thought the Autobot Council and High Command need to ease off just a bit. Stuffy bunch of control freaks at times, I tell you. At least Ultra Magnus holds heavy sway over most of what happens and he's recently proven himself not to be a total afthead.
44. What are your views on sex?
Assuming you're referring to what MY species does? Oh, it can be fun. I've had enough flings in my life to feel that the act is best done with the one you hold dearest, though. Bonding doesn't happen when you do it for kicks.
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
I believe anyone and anything can kill, but I'd really rather not. Causing death goes against my nature as a healer, but I suppose that if the life of a patient or friend was threatened so much that delivering death to the enemy was the only way, I'd go through with it. During the war, our side tried to take prisoner and/or exile the Decepticons as much as possible, but a lot of them went by the "offline before surrender" code instilled by Megatron and sometimes the only way to bring them down was to kill them.
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any being could do?
Brainwashing and/or memory wiping for the sake of control. I'd rather be permanently offline than end up in such a state.
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
Indeed I do! I used to be a bit more skeptical about that, but I'm hoping that after all this time I've finally found someone to share my remaining years with, through both triumphs and trials if she'll have me.
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
Doing right by others and always doing your best, no matter the task at hand.
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
I'm...more honest about how I feel with both myself and others than I used to be. Thanks to the crew and our human allies, I don't feel like I need to bury my compassion quite so much for fear of being emotionally hurt. I admit that I could still be better about some things, but all in due time.
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
Like most Autobots, I have an automatic prejudice against Decepticons, but having fought against them for millions of years didn't help matters much. It also didn't help that when I was younger and more foolhardy, I actually repaired one of them in the field and he turned on me the moment the opportunity was right. Oil Slick...that was his name. Won't forget him any time soon. I've...learned to get along with a few Decepticons in the Nexus, but I don't know how willing I'd be to join with them in a cause. I guess it would depend on the cause and which Decepticon we're talking about. I'm a cautious old bot, after all.
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
I've said already that I'm capable of combat and even killing if I have absolutely no other choice for the sake of the greater good, but I would never do serious harm to others without due cause. I do have quite a temper, but the majority of my threats are empty. I don't understand the need some beings have to be senselessly violent and I could never be that way. I'd rather die than kill a human child or "take advantage" of someone...
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
Cybertron and the rest of my race. Earth and its people. Even for just those on my current crew, human and Autobot alike.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
I suppose if I'm one thing to everyone for the most part, it's straight forward. Depending on how well I know others, I might be a little more friendly and given over using nick names if they're folks I feel I can trust at least a little. If I'm given reason to be suspicious of someone or feel threatened, it's time to keep them at arm's length and even turn on the snark.
54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
Right now, Communique. She keeps me steady when I start to falter, she reminds me that I still have a beating spark for a reason. She's there to give me that gentle touch to one shoulder or take my hand when I feel like life is falling apart.
55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
I'm actually going to go with Optimus Prime, here. I don't agree with all his decisions and I know he's far from perfect, but aren't we all? The kid's got what it takes to be a good leader and once he gets used to handling stress better, I think he'll be one of the slagging best ones our race has seen in a long while. He's tough, tenacious, brave and his spark's always in the right place. He takes the Autobot creed seriously.
56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
My teammates are my friends... Optimus Prime, Prowl, Communique, Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Wreck-Gar and Sari. I did count Isaac Sumdac as a friend too, and I still do count Captain Fanzone. I think for a guy who claims to hate machines as much as he does, he respects us and actually tries to understand us a little more than the general populace of the city.
57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
Kay is my significant other and I've discussed her some already. She's not quite as old as I am, but she is the only other one on the team who was online during the Great War. Her primary armor colors are brown, tan and white and she has the alternate mode of an Earth bird called a Swift. She's smart, gentle, talented, experienced and operates on common sense. Heh, hands off, mechs. She's mine. (And if I'm lucky, perhaps one day she'll be my bond-mate.)
58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
Well, there was that femme from the University, Lifeline. I think that might have been more of a crush or simple attraction than anything else. At one time, I wondered if I was attracted to Arcee as well, but I eventually figured that we wouldn't mesh that well and put her down in my mind as a good friend before...well, before the current mess came about. Kay being the one I'm with now, I feel stronger about her than any other female of my species I've ever known. The way we got together was a little unusual, what with her reading messages I exchanged with some Nexus folks about how to get together with her, but it all worked out for the best.
59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
Intelligence, personality, talent, compassion, common sense and patience. I also enjoy having a significant other who enjoys good conversation and time spent curled up in the dark together...
60. How close are you to your family?
I'm close to my teammates, although my relationship with each of them is a little different. I respect Prime, I love Communique, I adore Sari, I admire Prowl, I appreciate Wreck-Gar's innocence, Bulkhead's strength of loyalty and even Bumblebee's enthusiasm. I'd be devastated if I lost any of them.
61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
Being Cybertronian, I can't really start a family beyond having a bond-mate. We just don't operate that way.
62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
Optimus Prime, Communique or Prowl are my top choices. All three can give good advice, one is my commanding officer and another has extensive work experience, especially in dealing with others.
63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
I trust my team and MOST of the Elite Guard. Ultra Magnus and Jazz know what they're doing and have good intentions. Sentinel Prime is another matter, entirely...
64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
My entire crew, I'd hope. I rather think Captain Fanzone might miss me as well. He and I are sort of kindred spirits in attitude. Likely there'd be people in the Nexus who'd miss me, as well. I do have a few friends there.
67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
In the field if Prime is not around, but not in social situations. Big difference.
68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
Not really. I'm just not the real social type and large groups tend to mean elevated noise levels. No thanks.
69. Do you care what others think of you?
Eh, no. I'm a little set in my ways, as well as more or less alright with who I am on the inside. Folks can like me if they want, dislike me if it suits them.
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
I like my stasis naps, that's for sure. I also like tinkering with personal engineering projects in medbay, preferably working on gadgets that don't have anything to do with warfare. I enjoy good conversation, a little television now and then and spending time curled up with my significant other.
71. What is your most treasured possession?
I didn't have a lot when I got to Earth. Never was one to haul belongings around with me. Sari's given me prints of some of her photos and I love those to death, though, both as gifts and for the subject matter. Most of them are pictures of us, of her, of Eleven... Wreck-Gar dug me up a small Earth tool set, too. He said he wanted to find "ratchets for the Ratchet" or something like that. They're not tools I'll ever really have use for, but I appreciate the sentiment. And, of course, I still have what few belongings Eleven kept while she was with us. I keep them all on my berthside table, carefully arranged. The only objects I don't have that were hers are the Butterfly knives she left behind the day the Facility took her back. Prowl still has those in his quarters and they are likely best left with him. They hold a certain significance for him that the rest of us don't understand as well. Eleven was, after all, his meditation partner.
72. What is your favorite color?
Red. Big surprise, eh?
73. What is your favorite food?
I like a little high-grade now and then, even though I have to be careful with how much I intake. There was an oil bar on Cybertron that had the best mix, but it was pretty potent. They called it Blue Delirium because if you got too much into you, it'd take you right off your feet.
74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
Medical research material. I'm up to date on most of what Cybertron has to offer, so I've moved on to Earth medicine. Seein' as how we've got Sari and how we used to have Eleven, well...better if someone on the team knows how to treat human injuries if they happen.
75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
I don't mind a movie now and then, just so long as it's not full of gross humor or ridiculous, unrealistic action stunts. Educational programs about human medicine, biology and anatomy can be interesting. And I'm not real big on music. If I do listen to anything, I prefer to stay to the background and be something without lyrics. Something I can listen to that won't cause my train of thought to meet a titanium wall. Oddly though, I've found myself gaining an interest in pro-wrestling. Sari calls those shows "soap operas for guys." I have trouble drawing parallels between those boring programs that air in the middle of the day and a bunch of humans holding contests of strength and grappling skill, but...I guess I'll take her word for it.
76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
I used to hit the high-grade more than I do now, mostly for stress relief. And I was sort of forced to lessen my intake due to old age. If not for that, I'd probably still be drinking like I used to... Off-duty only though, I mean.
77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
Well, if I'm not already passed out in my quarters, working in medbay or assigned to patrol or monitor duty, I don't mind watching television with the others in the common room.
78. What makes you laugh?
I'm not usually one to have a laugh at the expense of others, but if someone gets the best of Bumblebee, that usually amuses me. He's something of a prankster, so he's got it coming half the time, anyway. Sometimes the antics of Sari and Wreck-Gar make me laugh, as well. I think of both of them as very young kids and their innocence can be cute. Eleven knew how to get a laugh out of me... She could even get the occasional chuckle out of Prime. Sparks, I miss those times. Months later and I'm still not over it.
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
The typical Decepticon disregard for life. ANY absolute disregard for life, in fact.
80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
Oh, there have been plenty of nights when I've had trouble shutting down. If I can't drink myself into a stupor, I'll usually dig out some of Sari and Wreck-Gar's photos and glance through those. Sometimes I'll read old data pad logs, too. It's nice to look back on good memories.
81. How do you deal with stress?
Not well. Unfortunately, I have a tendency to sulk and grumble a lot or, if I'm feeling really miffed, go off on rants. That's when everyone else hides the high-grade.
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
For the most part, I like to have a plan. In my old age, I don't adapt to new and surprising situations quite as well as I used to, so I prefer to have some kind of strategy on how to handle most things.
83. What are your pet peeves?
Clutter, loud noises, back talking youngsters, Decepticons, high-and-mighty egomaniacs, broken gear, back stabbers, bounty hunters...
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
Get up, get that first can of oil, check in with the rest for the morning meeting and follow the schedule for the day, whether it be work at the base or work in the city. Evenings tend to get dedicated to social time in the common or project time in medbay. And I'll usually call it a night shortly before midnight so I can be on my feet again at sunrise. I don't mind daily schedule changes in terms of activities, but nothing fries my circuits like getting an emergency call before sun-up. Something had better be on fire somewhere or it's post-first-can-of-oil attitude all the way!
86. What is your greatest weakness?
My short fuse temper and attitude. Sometimes it's difficult for me to get along with anyone I don't see optic to optic with. I'm also stubborn and, admittedly, a little set in my ways.
87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I'm not appearance obsessed like SOME bots, but there are things I would change about my appearance if just because my age is starting to show. I'll never repair certain parts of myself; they're too important in what they remind me of, but eh... I could do without some of the other scars and the lower riding hood. Some things are easily fixed, others not so much. I'm at a point in my life where I'd almost have to take on entirely new shell just to get past it all. I'm rather caught between having earned my age (and wanting respect for that) and being frustrated with living with it. Any vanity aside, I think it ultimately comes down to wanting to be as effective as possible at my job.
88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
I wouldn't really categorize myself as either.
89. Are you generally organized or messy?
Organized almost to a fault. I know where everything is and where it should be in my quarters and in the medbay. If anything is out of place, I'll know.
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider
Good
* Cybertronian medical work. They say I used to be one of the best my home world had to offer and I still think that's fairly true.
* Engineering. Give me enough parts and time, and I can design and build just about anything.
* Keeping the younger set of bots in line. Sometimes the trick is just being louder than their slagging rock music. Ha!
Bad
* Keeping my stress level down. As bitter and pessimistic as I am, I also tend to worry more than I should and obsess over problems.
* People skills. They're getting better, but sometimes snark and sarcasm is all I can manage when I'm in a mood.
* Drinking. I used to be able to hold my high-grade with the best of 'em, but lack of practice and old age have taken me down a notch or two.
91. Do you like yourself?
Some of the time. That doesn't mean I understand why anyone else manages to like me, however.
92. What are your reasons for doing what you do? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...)
I care more than I let on most of the time. I value life and want to protect it. It's practically part of my base programming, something so spark deep I don't know how to deny it. If people ask, I'll give them the basic, non-sentimental version of the explanation. I'm still hesitant to appear emotionally vulnerable, as I said before.
93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
On a personal level, I'd like to find Site Xavier and destroy it. The others feel much the same as I do about the place, but my own experiences with those who hunt, harm and even kill either for personal gain or for the personal gain of others have probably led me to hate it even more. Treating living creatures as weapons to strike down others, guilty or innocent, in the name of the so-called almighty dollar? Disgusting. The place is a threat to its own reality and an abomination that spits on what nature intends - it needs to fall. Now, mind you... Destruction of the place itself doesn't equate to destroying everyone in it. Whatever powers that be willing, if the place ever falls there will be other justice for those responsible for building and maintaining such a pit. ...On a broader scale, I'd like to see Megatron arrested and put in prison. Starscream, as well. Both of them are power hungry schemers who don't care who or what they destroy in their quest to rule Cybertron. As it is, they already forced the dispersal of the All Spark in their quest to own power that should never be wielded by any one being. The two of them captured and tried for their crimes... That would be a big step towards prolonged peace.
94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Back on Cybertron? Still on Earth? I don't know. It depends on how long it takes us to deal with Megatron and his lackeys. Leaving Earth would be rather difficult at this point, though. I've rather grown to like it, here.
95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
Quietly, preferably in the company of those closest to me. I don't know what the odds are of that happening, though, so if I'm on duty when my time comes, it had better be in the field and protecting life.
96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
* I'd tell everyone in the crew how proud of 'em I really am and why, as well as give them as much worldly advice as I would figure they could handle.
* Leave letters of apology to Arcee and Eleven, explaining that I wish I could have done more for them both.
* Spend quality time with Kay and express to her in every way possible how much I love her.
97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
My charm and good looks. Or, you know, NOT. I don't have either. Honestly, I'd be happy being remembered as one of those who served under Optimus Prime, part of the very first Earth detachment. For the first time in a long time, I'm proud of where I am and what I'm doing with my life.
99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Cranky. Old. Doctor.
100. What advice would you give the world?
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Cherish your life and those you care for the most because you never know what you've got until it's gone...
