READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

Do not feel obligated to read the following. Shaun's last post got me thinking about astrology and Christianity. I found a small excerpt from a Christianity Today editorial that actually refers to a Mars Hill tape. Anyway, the editorial this is from is actually about how the major Christian leaders have not said anything against Harry Potter. ( Read more... )

ooh, that's so interesting! especially the part comparing the technology vs. magic (being socially acceptable in christian circles). i honestly keep my love for HP on the down low a lot of times, because i know a lot of the christians that i'm around don't understand it at all. i hate that ignorance & inconsistent behavior.

it really bugs me when a christian will not allow their child to read harry potter, but they will allow them to watch scooby doo & fairy tales and disney movies. i don't understand what the difference is. come on folks: be consistent! :)

thanks for sharing that... very interesting..

do you think that tarot cards, oija (sp??) boards, etc. are intrinsically bad? well, i guess no object can be evil in and of itself... can it? i mean, are those "tools of the devil" ;) or are they just something that can be used for a channel or gateway into that sort of thing?

what do ya'll think?

i really care less for astrology than other things.... it just doesnt make sense to me. i understand the determinist bent to it though. i guess thats why im not so interested. most of the other "magicial tools" for prophecy are very short term. if i understand astrology properly - you could tell what a day for me would be like a thousand yrs from now..... i mean, the whole "movement" of the stars are already set. also, it seems kind of impersonal. there are just far too many variables for me to buy into it.

the article you mention.... very interesting. i like the logic. people can be so stupid sometimes. im pretty sure im doing my thesis in ethics on christians and literature..... trust me, this will be a chapter.

btw- i have that paper on rom. 8 if you want me to send it to you guys... it will be a couple weeks before i get my paper (on gratuitous/pointless evil) back and i want to comb over it again before i send it..... just let me know.
