Tutorial #13 - Alex & Sophia header
Learn how to make the following header..

There are TWO Parts to this tut , so read carefully and i hope i don't confused you if you need help with a step , just send me a comment and ill try to help.
Now onto the TUTORIAL. ...
PART 1 : Alex & Sophia image..

Step 1: Desaturate (shift+ctrl+U)
Step 2 : Brightness / Contrast
-44 -1
Step 3: Selective Color
Whites : -100 , -100 , -100 , -100
Step 4: Channel Mixer
first of click on Monochrome located in the left bottom corner
Reds : +62
Greens : +32
Blues : +16
Constant : +4
merge layers together & we are finished with the first part of the tutorial.
PART 2 : Alex & Sophia header..
going from this to this
Step 1: Open a new file size of 607 x 411 with the background Black.
Step 2: Now drag on the Alex and Sophia image we've just edited onto the new file. You may notice that the image is too big (eg:A) so we are gunna resize it , i did that by free transform tool (ctrl+T) instead of image resize. Holding shift drag the image from the bottom right corner going upwards until you think its resized enough.(eg:B)

Step 3: ( Hide the background layer , so its easier to do this step..) Then i used the Rectangular Marquee tool (M), with a feather of 10px. And i clicked around the edges of the image and on a new layer i filled it in with black. if your confused bout this step let me know and ill try to explain it better, i was unable to make a screen shot of this step for some reason it wasn't working.
Step 4: a: Using the pen tool , click around the image where you can see the rest of the background of the image and then right click and click on Make Selection and a feather radius of 10px and fill it black.
b: and then put the image on an angle by using the free transform tool.
Step 5: a: (bring back the background layer ). Now Duplicate the Alex and Sophia image , then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur >
Radius : 1.4
b: then set the blending mode to Multiply of Opacity of 55%
Step 6: then i added Text the font i used is Garamond, italic size 48.
Step 7: a: nearly done, now learn how to create the red light flare thingy in the middle of Alex & Sophia.
New Layer , using a Soft brush with a master diameter of 175 and the color i used was #FA9E0D
b: then go to Filter > Distort > Twirl > in the angle bit put 286 or just play around with it until your happy with the result.
c: then set the twirl to Linear Light and i placed in the middle of Alex and Sophia .
& We are DONE!! Yay. i hope you are happy with your result. This header works best if your Lj layout background is black.
Remember you don't have to follow this tutorial exactly the way it is , it all depends on the image you are using , so just play around with the settings until you are satisfied with it.
