So yesterday I got pulled over the first time ever I've ever run a red light (if my memory serves me right). And it wasnt even on purpose, I was engaged in conversation and didnt see the yellow until it was too late to stop, and the light changed right before I went through

if he didn't radar you, he has no proof and it won;t stand. bothersome laws.

Yeah, I will have to weight how much missing a day of work VS just paying it off will come up to.

Simply not true. He can testify that he paced you, or use a stopwatch. There is no law saying Radar is required for a speeding ticket ; only laws that say that radar must be used in particular ways if it is used.

Look into pleading nolo contendre (no contest). If it is your first offence, it can be cheaper and easier than fighting it and losing.
