In the aftermath of the holidays I couldn't stand to think about another large project, or anything involving pastel or neutral colors.
So, I engaged a little therapy and made some stuff for *myself*. It took about a day and a half of pretty serious crocheting to finish it all, and it is really, really not neutral or pastel.
Scarf, headband, fingerless gloves.
Don't worry, once I realized those couple of ends were sticking out funny I fixed the issue. for some reason I had to see photos to notice them -- go figure.
It was all made out of Red Heart, used less than a full skein of each color, and so ended up costing me about 6 bucks. They're also warm, and mine, even if they don't match a thing I own.
Now, maybe I can get back on the pastel and neutral train.
Someone asked for it in my personal journal, and since I'd written it out, anyway, I thought I'd go ahead and share.
Remember I'm American.
HDC = Half double, CH = chain.
ch as long as you want them to go vertically up your wrist/arm--these are 30, plus 2 for the first stitch.
Row 1 - HDC in each chain, starting 2 from the hook, chain 2, turn.
Rows 2-8 - HDC in the back loop of each stitch. chain 2, turn.
Row 9 - HDC in the back loop of for the first ten stitches. Slip stitch into the next five. Continue with HDC into the end of the row, chain 2, turn.
Row 10 - HDC in the back loop for the first ten stitches. Chain five (over the previous rows slip stitch). HDC in the back loop to the end of the row. chain 2, turn.
Rows 11- HDC in back loop of each stitch, including the chain. Chain 2, turn. (look! It's a thumb hole)
Carry on with HDC in the back loop, chain 2, turn, until you have something that's wide enough to fit over your palm. It'll be smaller than you think it will be. Bind it off.
Use either a darning needle or slip stitches to join the two long sides together.
The wrist cuff is 5 rows of SC in the round.
The finger end is a row of SC, followed by 5 DC in each single stitch (both loops!) around, *once*.
To make the thumb gusset, do 4-5 rows of SC around the 'hole' Watch the size, it has a tendency to get big.
Invert the whole thing. I joined my finger 'ruffle' between each finger rather than leaving it open because it looked better, but either works.
