There are a lot of things in the game that are easy to miss that eventually reveal more in areas of the story that seem incomplete. For example there's a way to get in the safe in the storage room, and there are people in town who reveal a connection between the band in Mae's dreams and what's been going on in the woods.
I felt disappointed about the game after all the hyped reviews, but I think partly it's for the same reason - I probably missed out on answers. Mostly I was annoyed about the game not really being a game. You turn the crank to progress the story and you have no choice but to watch your character make mistake after mistake.
