Once again, I find myself living in the same city as an old school rapper...

Seattle is of course the home of Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix, but until the other day I had been only vaguely aware that Sir Mix-a-Lot was from here. What happened yesterday? I was listening to the radio, which I've been doing a lot more recently in hopes of finding a station up here that plays Radiolab, and Sir Mix-a-Lot's song "Posse On Broadway ( Read more... )

Have you been to Dicks? It may look shady, but the burgers, fries and shakes are awesome. It's one of those places that people from all walks of life go to. From the street punks up to families and business men. Though I would go to the one on 45th over Broadway.

And yeah, you're 100% correct, he's talking about SCCC. My sister went there in the early 90s and that song was HUGE on campus since it was mentioned.

Also, there's actually a fair amount of good Mexican in Seattle. You just need to know where to go. If you want suggestions, I'd be happy to recommend some places!

Also, a surreal site - I've seen Sir Mix a Lot and Chris Balleu (from Presidents of the United States of America) walking around broadway more than once back when I was in high school in the late 90s.

That's really weird.

Also, where is good Mexican food? Coupled with the question, are you a Seattle native? Not to be snobby, but I've noticed that people's expectations change depending on how far they are from Mexico, to say nothing of the differences between California and Texas Mexican food. My southern californian friends would always complain about what I thought was good mexican food, and my midwestern friends would eat some of the blandest stuff and say it was spicy. I've yet to figure out where Seattle fits in to all this.

I am a Seattle native, but there are a couple of places that I was recommended to by people from Texas, who swear by it. The main places are Rositas (near Greenlake), Mama's Mexican Kitchen down on 2nd, Tacos Guaymas in Fremont, and Peso's in lower queen anne (though this place is way more trendy).

I mean, none of them will be the BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER, but they're pretty damn good, and probably the best Seattle has to offer. It's definitely comparable with the stuff in Texas/SoCal.

But yeah, in general, Seattle is more the place for really good seafood/asian fare.

Wow. Sir Mix-a-Lot did songs other than "Baby Got Back." Weird.

Hey, I added you from the Seattle community. Your journal made me laugh, and I enjoyed your use of the word "syllogism".

hahaha. I'm trying so hard to make friends in Seattle, and the person who adds me from the Seattle community is from Portland. I love the irony! Whatever, you're added too. Let's be friends!

Oh you are? On perusing your journal, you remind me of all the co-oper, anarchist kids I used to hang out/live with in Santa Cruz, which I'm sorely lacking in my life right now.
