Here's an interesting game for all of Thatcher's Reluctant Children on my Friends List who are dreading a Tory victory: what positive things will come out of a Conservative government?

If your immediate response is "nothing", you're not playing properly.

This is a difficult game because there's an iterative problem. I'm a Eurosceptic, so one consolation of a Tory government for me is that we probably won't get much further embroiled in that nonsense (though history suggest I'll be disappointed). However they are so rubbish at it that it's likely to give further impetus to the trend towards pro-EU attitudes in the other parties, worsening the outcomes in the long-run. I used to hope another thing would be a tougher line on crime, but for the last five years at least Labour has been the tough on crime party, while the Tories develop libertarian instincts, presumably recognising that while 'broken britain' is nice rhetoric, their voters are far more likely to be victims of speed cameras than of muggers.

I dunno. The shadow cabinet seems to have been assembled from a selection of deliberately uncaricaturable people.

You have seen the bumbling buffoon that is George Osbourne?

The positive would probably be more people remembering why they were so bad last time and knowing that we'd only have 5 more years.

See, Vince Cable would not only make a good Chancellor, he'd also make a brilliant Spitting Image puppet.

In terms of their campaign policies, I can honestly say that the only ones I agree with are the ones that cross-over with the Lib Dems or Labour or that are done better by the other two main parties. The only good thing to come from a Tory government would be that we'd have a government that was not Labour and had a large amount of experience in governing the country (which is what the Lib Dems lack). Actually, one more potentially good thing could come and that would be a coalition government of Tories and Lib Dems, increasing the Lib Dems standing as a major party and setting the groundwork for a future Lib Dem government, when they have enough experience to be realistic as well as clever ( ... )

Their idea to try to separate retail banks from investment banks could be quite good I think.
