I read the paper today and as usual it was full of negativity. the president's state of the union was received by a partisan split of emotion of course, the new secretary of education continues the argument against cartoons that apparently support tolerance of all individuals, the north koreans are told to cut their hair short because it affects ( Read more... )

I wish I had some way to encourage you, but the fact is that I feel this exact same way at times. The only way to help end the horror is to face the horror, but sometimes the horror is too much. I can't watch the news - literally - because it often makes me cry. Sometimes you feel so helpless against the onslaught ( ... )

you're right, I have lived examples where one act of kindness directed towards me turned a day around and encouraged me to pass along the love. it is true that one small ripple can become a great wave in time, it's just so hard to see it when I'm feeling down.

I'm always reminded of the Simpsons episode with the "Tomacco". Did you see that? There's one tomacco plant left in the world, and Homer needs to destroy it to free everyone from the insane frenzy of tomacco addiction, and these crazed animals are about to tear down the farmhouse to get at the plant, and Homer says, "But Marge, I'm just one man! What can I do?"
