Mazza y Nereida || Ridere dagli alti luoghi

It was with mutual (albeit, somewhat reluctant) agreement between the four stooges assassins was that the pair best suited for this particular part of their mission in Venezia was better left to those with the proper experience. That was, Matteo, for his gilded tongue, and Vincenza, for her old roots as a woman of status. She would know much better ( Read more... )

Nereida would be forever relieved that she was the daughter of a blacksmith turned Assassin and another Assassin because she had always lacked a certain basic femininity and Vincenza had tried to fight her into a dress once only to have the expensive garment ripped and ruined before the night was out. So Nereida was more than happy to be on the rooftops with Mazza and had brought a sharpening stone along with her and was making her way through her impressive set of throwing knives ( ... )

Oh Mazza remembered the last time she had been forced into a dress, Mazza remembered well. He had laughed; it was impossible not to! Teased her for her femininity more than he normally did, called her 'La fiore più delicato di tutta di Italia!' and had avoided whatever retribution she might have rained down upon him for this comment. He had jokingly mourned the dress, and the loss of la piccola fiore.

He chuckled at her words, and shifted to follow her to the edge of the roof, indeed grabbing her by the ankles so that she would not fall. Easily, he helped her up. "Accendere come una penna, piccola bambina," he chuckled.

"All is well then?" he questioned, setting her back down and smiling.

((La fiore più delicato di tutta di Italia! - The most delicate flower in all of Italy!
la piccola fiore - the little flower
Accendere come una penna, piccola bambina - Light as a feather, little girl.))

Nereida remembered those humiliating nicknames that she had tried to smack out of Mazza but owing to the fact that he was a hulking giant (compared to her at least) all that had happened was her hand ending up bruised and Mazza laughing and adding new nicknames to the list.

Needless to say that if she'd worn a dress since, she'd damn well kept it from him.

"Everything looks fine," she replied, rolling her eyes at the remark before she smirked. "Mejor que ser pesado como una piedra. Al menos puedo nadar." If that was said somewhat smugly then it was done out of the same sort of family love that had her riling up Vincenza or blaming Matteo for everything that could ever possibly go wrong.

(mejor que ser pesado como una piedra. Al menos puedo nadar. - better than being heavy as a stone. I can at least swim.)

It would have been a shame if she had kept such a thing from him, he did so like to have more material with which to tease her about her feminine side.

Mazza scoffed at her accusation, throwing his arms out before him, displaying empty palms towards her. "All the better to wield my mace with, piccola bella," but he did seem disgruntled at the 'can't swim' comment.

He was secretly working on that, okay guys.

As if her name wasn't bad enough although she wasn't sure if he knew what her first name actually meant. Nymph she might be by nature and perhaps her stature, if one ignored the biceps and shoulders that didn't really match the rest of her, but nothing else was at all nymph-like about her. Evidently some wishful thinking on the part of her parents.

"I suppose it does come in hand at times," she said after a long moment of mock consideration, screwing up her face in an exaggerated thoughtful look. If Vincenza had been present she would have smacked her hand against her forehead no doubt. There was a quiet laugh at his remark and she pinched one of his upper arms. "Yes, we need a bruiser on the team. Dios sabe that Matteo is all flash and no substance." A lie; Matteo was as capable as any of them, a fierce fighter and like they all had, he'd saved another one of them from serious injury and death. It was what family did ( ... )
