FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS! RAIN'S CLOTHES HAVE EVOLVED!
Your
priest clothes have evolved into
fullbody suit thing. You might also notice that he's not carrying his violin around anymore. He still has it, though.
Second order of business. I was trying to essay on Rain and then I sort of lost the point but Sebastian told me to post it anyway.
"No matter how much I live, no matter how much I lose. I will never be like you. I won't give up on people. I can't give up.
I have wings. I will fly."
So Rain is insane. He's a good kind of insane, the sort of insane that for some reason endears him to demons. The level of self-sacrifice Rain is willing to go through for someone else (anyone else, it doesn't really matter if he knows them or not) is pretty damn extreme. IT IS LIMITLESS. He's willing to give up his life for essentially anyone because he loves people. He loves you. He also kind of loves the demons he knows. Rain is a total winner.
So let's go on to a very very long essay thing about Rain. WARNING FOR POINTLESSNESS. I guess I like to hear myself type.
So, the Rain you talk to is essentially the same guy he was when he was 7. Sure he's grown up, he knows more and has lived a lot more but his core personality is essentially the same. How does a guy live 624 years WITHOUT CHANGING?
Well, first you have to be kind of dumb and then you have to be crazy and have the ability to put everyone else before yourself.
Rain didn't lead an easy life, but it was also not a particularly hard one. He grew up in an orphanage with other kids, than the first girl showed up when he was about 8 or 9. In this orphanage the kids had to make their own beds and set the table and they didn't get much schooling. Rain didn't learn how to read and write until he was about 20. No one taught him, school was not a priority for him nor for his caretakers. But he grew up in a religious (Christian) environment, he was taught about Jesus and the Bible and treat others like you want to be treated etc etc in a place with very little outside influence. It was the nuns and the children and occasionally a priest or a doctor but there was nothing and no one to challenge the teachings he learned.
He grew up uper close to this girl named Freya and Freya bossed him around because Rain was super easy to boss around. Sometimes Freya would break something and get Rain to fix it, or lose something and get Rain to find it or get pissed off at boys and get Rain to beat them up. And then Rain would get beat up, probably on purpose, because he didn't like to fight.
Then, when he was a teenager, maybe 17 or 18 a boy named Yuca came to the orphanage because his school had been damaged and he needed a place to study. He was studying to be a priest and was also helping out the military. This boy ended up sharing a bed with Rain and as it is natural, they became friends. Canon is super vague on how long they all live together, but I give it four years, at least. During this time, Rain grew up into sort of the second-in-command in the orphanage, he took over laundry duties and dishes duties and over making sure to potty train the youngest kids. He was never a father figure, but more of a big brother who got teased a lot. Yuca on his part was probably a father figure, he'd probably sit the kids down and teach them basic math and how to read and write, and Freya was everybody's big, slightly tomboyish sister.
When Rain admitted to Yuca that he didn't know how to read, he taught him. He'd sit with him for a couple of hours everyday and get him to write, or they'd lie together by a tree while Rain practiced reading the Bible. Yuca was a fucking awesome friend and Rain loved him very much.
Here is a snipper of a conversation in which Yuca tries to be crazy philosophical at Rain and Rain is... well. Rain.
"What is God made of?"
"You... you're not gonna laugh?"
"Hm?"
"Maybe... it's just people's feelings."
"That's right Rain, God only exists in front of those who believe in Him. It's the same with the world. You perceive the world with your five senses. When your mind perceives the world, then the world exists before you. But if we were born without any senses... then how could we percieve the world except as a dream in our minds? But then dreams often feel as real as the world we see now. Look. If I touch you with this hand... I can remember touching you, but I can't ever prove I did. If reality is nothing more than what is in our mind, then what is the difference between this world and a dream?"
"Yuca. I don't understand."
"It's as if this world is merely the planet's dream. There is no awakening from this ruined dream that repeats for eternity. Rain, close your eyes and see. Me... you... everyone we know... will all disappear."
Then BAD THINGS happen. One of the girl dies and Freya starts starving herself. Rain is amazing all through and later they have sort of a follow-up to the above conversation.
"It's pretty odd, isn't it? I've never read the Bible on my own until now."
"... there is no such thing as God."
"I know. You don't actually believe in God, what a bad priest. HA HA HA"
"You told me before, right? That God is made of people's feelings."
"So believing in God is the same as believing in people. I... I don't really understand God myself, but I believe in people."
"I guess that's okay."
"I love people. I love you, Yuca. And Freya. You two are my gods."
So, Rain's an idiot. And everything he does is selfless without him giving it much thought. He refuses to go to a safe place with Freya and Yuca, telling them it's because he doesn't want to leave Sister alone. The truth is, he's dying and he's worried Freya will try to starve herself again if she sees him die. He's sad he can't go with them, but he thinks it's better for Freya if he stays away.
Oh man, this is a lot of babbling without really saying anything. So let me try to summarize:
* Rain loves people! HE LOVES YOU!
ON RAIN'S AGE: He's 624! This is canon! Then the idea is that he was 24 when he was made immortal (he claims his age is 24 too) the thing is, taking all of canon into account, this doesn't make much sense because Freya is apparently 17 and she should only be a couple of years younger than Rain. So I think Rain should be between 19 and 21 (22 tops) when he's made immortal. BUT since he does claim to be 24 that one time and there's probably exactly 600 years Yuca's death and rebirth. Then either Freya's age is inconsistent or there was a time-skip somewhere.
ANYWAY, for my own sanity when Rain is asked his age he claims to be 24, but the couple of times he's talked about how old he was when he was made immortal, he's been vague and said he was a bit younger than that. I AM BASICALLY ROLLING WITH WHAT MY HEART TELLS ME it all makes sense in my head. apologies if I accidentally contradict myself.
AND NOW. A GAME.
YOU TELL ME YOUR CHARACTER PINGS AND I WILL PIMP A CHARACTER FROM ONE OF MY CANONS THAT I THINK WOULD PING YOU. I'm not even gonna try to get you to app, just read! COME ON GUYS I BET I HAVE ONE OF EVERYTHING.
