According to the NH DOT web page (which looks out of date)

"Only NH E-ZPass accounts with NH transponders will receive a discount at NH tolls..."

So the MA E-ZPass transponders won't get a discount - unless this changes. I'd be interested to know if the NH transponders would get a MA discount. (is there even a discount in MA?)

Also, I remember hearing on NHPR a while back (though I can't find any reference) that there probably won't be an E-ZPass lane for the Hampton Tolls (on I-95) until the later stages of the E-ZPass deployment (if at all).

I don't have a problem with the lack of discount reciprocity. I think its similar between NY and MA. But then again, I don't commute to NH.

Curious why the Hampton Tolls would be delayed. Is it an infrastructure issue or is the state against electronic tolls?

Unfortunately, beyond remembering that I heard something along those lines on NHPR, the only other thing I remember from the broadcast is thinking that not having it on the Hampton tolls was silly. I can't remember if they gave a reason - and I'm only 75% sure I'm remembering this correctly :) A very quick search on NHPR didn't come up with anything, so it might have all been a carbon-monoxide-induced delusion.

I'm guessing it's a money issue. They can use the E-ZPass as an excuse to get rid of tokens state-wide, which will make them boat-loads of money at the Hampton Tolls. If they can postpone putting in the E-ZPass, they'll just make more money.

Hmph. I had said I was waiting for NH to join the EZ-Pass bandwagon, but if they are willing to sell me discounted tokens, and not willing to discount my transponder, then I'll keep using tokens. How dumb do they think I am?

Well, not too dumb. The tokens are going to be phased out altogether; there's a question of whether they do it at the end of 2005 or 2006 (as the governor would like).

There's some question as to when they'll stop selling the 50% off tokens, but of course since the whole idea was to benefit NH residents anyway, this is just another benefit as far as the NH legislature is concerned.
