random fic question

So, here's a question for both fic writers and readers. When you are reading and/or writing fic, and the characters are texting, do you have a preference for how the texting itself is written?

When I write fic I usually italicize texts.

Assuming you mean visually (and not "spell out words or use abbreviations"), I prefer italicized, separated by line breaks to denote who's sending the text. Though I do like single-spacing to show that the same person sent two or more texts in a row.

I did mean visually, I probably should've been more clear about that. I'm just writing a big texting scene for the first time and trying to figure out the best way to format it. I've seen it done different ways, but for some reason, doing it myself is throwing me a little. Thanks for your input!
