prompt table She stood with the rest of the ‘ordinary’ people away from all the lords and ladies and watched him. She wasn’t watching the knights jousting and sword fighting like everyone else was though, she watched the herald, even though he wasn’t really doing anything to watch, she just wanted to see him, his beautiful blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. Her gaze had fixed on him the first time she’d seen him introducing Sir Ulrich, She’d never seen anything like it, such enthusiasm, such passion and belief and of course the fact he was very attractive didn’t hurt either.
She’d arrived here a few months ago, just outside an arena, she had no idea how or why, all she knew was she was couldn’t get back home, or even to her own time, So she’d gone inside to try to figure out what exactly was going on, and that was when she’d seen him, she felt so drawn to him she wondered briefly is this was the reason she was here, if perhaps he needed her help. Following the tournament through France, looking for clues, she’d found no sign either him or those he travelled with needed any help at all, still she felt a weird connection as she watched him quietly, she desperately wanted to talk to him but the group seemed to leave the tournaments so quickly she could never find him afterwards and so she continued the journey, until finally she was in London, during the finals, she knew this was something special, that Ulrich was very talented in the jousting competitions, but the only thing she cared about as she filed into the stadium with the rest of audience was seeing his herald, hearing his latest introduction, which she knew full well were complete lies, but he said everything with such conviction she couldn’t help but cheer along with the rest of them.
Today however things were different, as it was the finals she knew this was the last time she’d see him. Cheering along with every one she didn’t quite feel it as the last event was announced, the joust between Count Adhemar and Sir William Thatcher, the real name of Sir Ulrich. This was in then, the end of the tournaments. Finally it was all over, William the victor, and Adhemar hobbling off with his tail between his legs as the small group of friends celebrated at the side of the stadium, she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of them jumping up and down congratulating each other. Then she noticed everyone leaving, being directed out by guards, she waited, moving as slowly as she could, making a point of letting everyone else go ahead of her until there were only around a dozen people left. There were tears in her eyes as the neared the exit, this was it then, the end, and still she was stuck here in this strange time and place, all alone. Behind her she heard a chuckle, “I think you got a little confused, my lady,” a man’s voice said, “You’re supposed to watch the knight not his herald,” he continued happily, the voice getting nearer. Paige stopped immediately, she knew that voice, it was him. Wiping away a stray tear she turned quickly to face him, a sheepish smile on her face. “I watched William sometimes,” she informed him, looking up at his face, he was even better looking close up, it almost took her breath away.
The herald laughed and stepped forward, “I know, that was when I got to watch you“ he replied, taking her hand and kissing him tenderly, “allow me to introduce myself, my lady, Geoffrey Chaucer.”
Paige’s mind was too busy thinking about how wonderful his lips felt against her skin to register the name for a few moments, when it did however she just smiled and nodded, not wanted to show just how impressed or shocked she was by this for fear of affecting history in any way. “Pleased to meet you Geoffrey,” she replied, “although I feel a little like I know you already. I‘m Paige Matthews”
He gave her a cheeky grin still holding on to her head, “Paige ‘ey? Like in a book, I’m something of a writer myself, perhaps it’s fate or just a wonderful coincidence.” he replied. “We just won rather a lot of money, would you care to join us?”
