prompt table Paige laughed as she opened the email sent from the head of the London office of Torchwood as Jack came up behind her, “Something funny?” he asked grinning widely.
Paige span round in her chair and nodded, “It’s from her,” she informed him.
Jack frowned “and what did she want?” he asked raising an eyebrow as he moved forwards trying to get a look at the screen. “basically for us to stop finding the cool stuff,” she informed him spinning around once more as his hands landed on either side of the chair to stop it. “Hey I can’t help it if we have a better team than London!” he pointed out.
She turned back to the computer and clicked the reply button, “can I quote you on that, captain?” she inquired as she began to type.
Jack chuckled, “sure why not?” he replied, as she looked up at him.
“Actually it’s a little more serious than that,” she admitted as she typed out a genuine reply, one that was polite but basically informed Yvonne Hartman that the Cardiff team were not about to slack off just to make her look better.
“Go on,” he said distractedly as he casually glanced down at her legs. Paige smirked seeing him in the reflection of the screen. “Basically she’s saying the London branch is in danger of being shut down due to financial constraints, because they aren’t getting the results you are.” she explained as she clicked the send button. “Which would make this the main office, which would also make you the one in charge of the whole institute.” she continued.
Jack considered that for a moment, “that sounds like it’d involve more work.”
Paige nodded, “for all of us probably.”
“That’s it then, we’re sending more stuff down to London, P send out a memo will you?”
“You don’t want to be in charge then?” she asked not really surprised by this, he wasn’t really the responsible type. “I think you’d be good.”
“You do?” he asked clearly not really expecting this, he knew he was well liked amongst the others working in Cardiff , but to be charge of the whole thing, he really wasn’t organised enough for that, he wasn’t really organised to run Cardiff he’d just lucked out to have such a good secretary.
Paige swivelled round to face him again, “Jack this was meant to be a temp job,” he explained, “three months max then I was going back to San Francisco, back to my sisters.”
“I assumed you were staying to make sure I didn’t get a bunch of people blown up cos I accidentally slept with some alien warrior princess,” he told her with a wicked smile.
“Well yeah that too,” she admitted, “but I like it here, we’re a team and while I miss my sisters like crazy I know that what we’re doing here is just as important as what I did back home.”
Jack raised an eyebrow, “you do paperwork.” he said confused. “Unless...”
She smiled and nodded, “I’ve decided to take you up on your offer.” she said switching off the computer. Jack laughed, “I knew you hated working in the office! So what took you so long to decide?”
“I liked taking a back seat for a while, but like you said I got bored, so if you still want me I’m all yours, just give me an assignment.”
Jack grinned and hugged her, “You won’t regret this, P,” he told her. “Guess I’m gonna have to find someone else to answer the phones then huh?“
“Well how’d you fancy having my sisters here?” she offered, “you still need a new chef too right?”
Jack got a wicked twinkle in his eye at the mention of her sisters, “you mean I’d get to spend time you all three of you?” he asked hopefully.
Paige smirked, “yes Jack, all three of us.”
