my prompt table Paige was asleep when suddenly she was awoken by the sound of a familiar voice outside her window. She sighed and left the bed to look out of the window. Looking down she saw him, Geoff the man who claimed he'd be the most famous author of all time one day. Now here he was, drunk below her window reciting his poetry to her. His bright yellow coat the most visible thing in the moonlight.
"She walked between the blossom and the grass;
I knew the beauty of her,
what she was." he shouted up to her.
She bit her lip, her heart melting slightly as she moved to sit by the window.
"It is I my lady, your lily among the thorns," he called up when he saw her in her nightgown, his arms spread wide, dramatically, as she shook her head.
"Geoffrey Chaucer, you're going to wake my father!" she scolded as quietly as she could.
He put his finger over his lips and looked up at her apologetically before a wide grin spread across his face, "Let me in then, my love" he called back loudly "I won't shut up until you do!"
She sighed again, she knew it was true, there was no reasoning with him when he was like this. She nodded and quickly went downstairs to open the door for him, he was waiting there impatiently when she did. He smiled and rushed forward wrapping his arms around her and kissing her roughly.
Paige frowned and pushed him away, "You're drunk Geoff, you're loud and drunk and my father will kill you if he finds you here."
He bit his lip and looked down at her, his blue eyes suddenly sad. "I wanted to see you my love, it's been so long. I know I'm just a lowly herald, but one day I'll be famous, you'll see."
She nodded slowly, "So you keep saying, but that doesn't help us now does it? We need money to live."
"I have money!" he protested "Sir Ulric pays me quite well."
She'd have laughed if it wasn't so serious, "And you gamble it all away!"
"I can change, I will change! For you my love I'll change the stars."
She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them and stepped forward leaning up to kiss him, "If you can change the stars sir I would gladly be your wife," she paused just a moment and took his hand, "and perhaps even if you can't."
