A lot of people are loving this season so far, and I have to say that I'm really liking it, too. There are just a few things that are bugging me. Full thoughts under the cut.
Meet the New Boss (7x01) was SUPERB. I loved it so much. There was literally nothing that I would change. 1. They didn't belabor the "Castiel as God" aspect. 2. Castiel realized that he was out of control and that he needed Dean and Sam's help. 3. Sam never gave up on Castiel. 4. Even though they spanned a great deal of time, the pacing and editing were well done. 5. Bobby puts the boys up and is there for them when they need it. 6. Sam isn't magically better after being intensely tortured by Lucifer himself for... 180 years?
Hello, Cruel World (7x02) was good. 1. Hallucifer was a lot of fun. 2. Sheriff Jodie Mills! Yay! 3. Bobby's house exploded--interesting plot development!
Things I don't like so much about these two episodes? 1. The pacing and back-and-forth of the scenes in 7x02. 2. The way they've set up the Leviathans so far seems... bleh. I was expecting something new and exciting and out-of-the-box, but it seems like Leviathans (just like Demons and Angels) have a hierarchy. There's a "boss." I would really have loved it if they were all just rogues, each with their own agenda and some in-fighting.
So... I like the season so far, but I do have a few quibbles. I really want the Leviathans to be something new and exciting. We'll see, I guess! Also, the overall pacing of the last 4 episodes has been kind of intense. Each episode has moved directly into the next episode and it's a little... exhausting. "To be continued..." is exciting, sure, but I do appreciate a break from the cliffhangers every now and then.
