Annie let Anya and Sam get up ahead of her, falling back without even meaning to. She'd seen outbuildings across the moat, and though she really wanted a bath and perhaps a nice, long nap, she also wanted to keep looking for something or someone that could explain what had happened to them. As a detective with no case to work through, she felt at loose ends - at least exploring her surroundings would give her some purpose. Given the happenings at the castle - a dead body, unfriendly unicorns, a supposed moat monster - she knew it was probably not advisable to wander on her own, but she didn't need anyone holding her hand, and anyway, she had the mobile in case she needed to ring for help.
Squaring her shoulders purposefully, she crossed the drawbridge, hurrying just a bit through the shadowy, desolate gate house and back into the sunshine. Instead of going back the way she'd entered the castle, she headed toward the cluster of small houses down to the right to begin poking around.
