here Rose was gone.
The Doctor wanted to be. Away from here, to as far as the edges of the universe. He wanted to run until he couldn't anymore- till his hearts pounded, his soul burned out and his mind disorientated with the thrill of a billion new wonders. He wanted to see something beautiful; some new planet tucked away in a quiet soft hazy little galaxy. He wanted snow-capped mountains rising out of endless fields of wild irregularity. He wanted to forget Rose Tyler.
The universe was complicated, his feelings for Rose were simple. They were effortless, obvious, an absolute that needed no understanding. That was the problem, he thought, with love: because once you've lost it, you're left standing in the noon day sun, so shadowless and blinding, there is nothing else.
The Doctor needed complicated. He needed the unknown and the bending of thought until it broke into knowledge. He needed the mystery of not knowing where he'd be on Tuesday or if there'd even be a Tuesday at all. He needed a life out of order, a never-ending labyrinth of moving on, changing time, places, faces, and never ever staying long enough to be caught out in the sun.
He needed that now. He needed to hurt. To feel the pain of the universe's gorgeous complexity.
But he was trapped here with his simple feelings and as he stood alone at the gates to the livery, a small smile crossed his lips to see the pterodactyl perched there.
"Oh, you are beautiful..."
