Sam didn't think that she'd find anything useful in the library, but Dairine still thought there was a chance, and more than that, she liked having a very concrete project in front of her. Cataloguing the books was a relatively good use of the time she and Spot had, as long as they couldn't find something better to do.

Bored, and not too pleased with the dinner she'd cooked for herself, she made her way to the library, her computer walking along beside her, down by her ankles.

What she hadn't expected to find in the library, once she got there, as a kid. Who looked about her age. Who was bunched up against one of the shelves.

"Um," she said, "Hi?" Which was much less eloquent than she was around normal people. There was something about meeting a kid here that put her off.

He had been so caught up in his own thoughts, that when Dairine spoke to him, the boy gasped, looking up at Dairine with a sound of surprise. "Ah!" he blinked a few times, the heir of the Russian throne staring at her blankly. "Hello." he said, pushing himself into a standing position. "I am Alexei." he was surprised to see someone close to his own age.

"I thought I was the only... ehm... young one here." he wondered if she knew enough history to know who he was.

If he'd mentioned his last name, then she would have known who he was, but for now she didn't connect him to the Russian royal family at all, even if his choice of words was a bit odd.

"No," she said. "I guess not." She was frowning a little, still somewhat confused by the situation. "I'm Dairine," she continued. "And this is Spot." She pointed at her computer. He currently had several spindly legs and one stalked eye, which he pointed at Alexei.

His blue, somewhat distant eyes turned to spot, and widened, filled with confusement. "What is that?" he said carefully. "It... moves." Alexei had no knowledge of technology. His master had kept him away from the human world for a long time now, and the time which had past had made him blind to the technological advances in human society.
