A cool calm breeze shifted; settling a blanket of fog down around the castle. The slow, dragging wake that circled the moat was barely visible under the thickening haze. It passed beside the castle, expanding it's girth with each gradually widening circle until it skirted barely brushing the outer edges of the bank. It was here the thing beneath lifted its massive head from the water and stared with sharp eyes onto the land.

Everything in the water was dead now. Only a few swans had managed to escape the creature's grasp and now with food depleted, it searched the banks for something different. For something over 12 meters in length it was surprisingly adapted to taking prey from land. With the deftness of an alligator, it was known to scoop stags off the river bank and drag them under the water until they stopped kicking. Or sometimes it didn't surface at all and knocked a wild-eyed something down with one hard hit from its long tail or clawed foot.

It waited now for movement, eyes buried just below the waterline.
