Today was Gene's lucky day.

Because a certain pain in the arse DI was looking for her DCI, and she wasn't going to stop until she found him. Of course it was easier, considering that Sam told her where his office was. And surprising him was always good for a laugh. He couldn't hide from her forever, though she didn't even know if he knew that she was around or not. If he did know, clearly he was avoiding her. But she didn't know he was really avoiding Sam.

Pushing the door open, Alex Drake waltzed in, shut the door and then sat down in one of the chairs and put her feet up on his desk. "Well well well, I'm here for a while and you don't even put out the welcome mat. I'm a bit disappointed."

People who waltzed into his kingdom without warning were either very brave or very stupid. Gene looked up from his drink paperwork, and for a moment he was completely lost for words - quite an achievement there, Alex. Of course, it was mostly due to the fact he was trying to decide whether she was real or another hallucination. He'd go with real. Heck, even if she did turn out to be a hallucination, it was better than looking at Keat's ugly mug.

"Had a big ol' welcoming party ready, marching band and everything - they probably went to get pissed instead."

He looked older - no, no older, tired. He looked tired and worn. That fighting spirit was close to broken. It'd been tough on him, losing his team, harder than he cared to admit.

Alex was always stupid and brave at the same time. That's why he liked her. Well that and her amazing rack, but still. The look on his face was definitely worth it. She'd caught him off guard, and that made her smile. Though she did notice how old he looked, or just how down right sad he looked. It was a bit heartbreaking to be honest.

"Suppose that's what happens when you don't pay them enough to stay." Her smile seemed to call him a cheap bastard.

She tried not to look overly concerned. Well not yet anyway. "What's got you hiding away this time? How long have you even been here?"

"I'm not hiding, I'm working." Working on non-existant cases, considering that in all the time his office had been set up not one person had come through those doors - well, aside from Sam, and the weirdo with the cape and now Alex, but no crimes had been reported. Well, there was the situation with the witch, but then she'd vanished before he even got to arrest her.

"Police officer, Bolls. Work doesn't stop just because I'm stuck in some poncy poofter's paradise." He took a swig of his drink. How long had he been here? "Been 'ere a while. Days all blur together, like." That could also be due to large amounts of alcohol.
