After she gave Sam spotty directions to their location, Annie could do little but cry all the tears left in her and keep her jacket pressed over Gene's multiple wounds as he faded. She tried to make him as comfortable as possible, but nothing she do seemed to help. For a while, he spoke encouragingly, promising her he'd be fine, but even that trailed off as the Guv seemed to slip in and out of consciousness. There was no more from Sam on the mobile, and now Annie was dreadfully alone. It was all she could do to pray Sam would arrive soon and bring help.
