Nominations for the Rose and Bay Awards 2013: Patron
Nominations are now open for the Patron category of the Rose and Bay Awards. The 2012 winner bryant, patron of "No Dominion" by mizkit is not eligible for nomination this year.
The Rose and Bay Awards
The Rose and Bay Awards were created in 2009 by ysabetwordsmith, so they are now in their fourth year, to honor excellence in cyberfunded creativity (otherwise known as crowdfunding). Crowdfunding is a growing business model which directly connects the creator of the works with their readers and patrons. This award is for both creators and patrons, spanning six categories: Art; Fiction; Poetry; Webcomic; Other Project; and Patron. (Other project includes anything that isn't art, fiction, poetry or a webcomic.)
The award period for eligible projects is from January 1st 2012 to December 31st 2012.
The nomination period begins today, January 1st 2013, and ends on January 31st 2013.
The voting period begins on February 1st 2013 and ends on February 28th 2013.
Rules
1. The project nominated must be cyberfunded, aka crowdfunded. There are a number of variations on this business model, but there must be creative material marketed directly to an audience online with money involved. If you're not sure a project qualifies feel free to ask.
2. The project nominated must have at least some material visible free online without charge. Creators who wish to be eligible may offer temporary or
partial access. (A note to let any visitors know would avoid annoying people.)
3. The project, or person, who won the previous year is not eligible for nomination in the following year. bryant, patron of "No Dominion" by mizkit was 2012's winner.
4. The award goes by calendar years, so for a project to be eligible this round it must have been active on or between January 1st 2012 and December 31st 2012.
5. Nominate projects in the comments below. A nomination consists of the project title, creator name, award category, a link to the project page, and a summary. The summary should include several sentences describing the project's content (theme, characters, plot, etc.), presentation (media, frequency, etc.), and crowdfunding approach (money handling, audience interaction, etc.)

Summary: Powerful Poetry is a series of Martian haiku featuring the romantic antics of four aliens, Xxeb and Wotzl (which makes sense if you have read it). Updates appear daily via Twitter. Whenever donations reach a target threshold, an extra poem is written and posted; audience members get to vote on the form, which can be anything other than haiku.
6. Three nominations are permitted per category. Please make each nomination in a seperate comment. A creator or patron may not nominate themselves.
7. Nominations for the Patron category will be collected by kajones_writing aka moonwolf1988.
8. Participation is voluntary. If a creator wishes to withdraw their project from any category, or a patron wishes to withdraw from the Patron category, simply contact the category handler. In case of withdrawal, the person who made the withdrawn nomination may then nominate another project or patron instead.
9. Voters are strongly encouraged (though not required) to browse the nominees before making a final decision; that's what the links are for, and the purpose of this award is to promote the splendor of crowdfunded projects. If you don't have time for that, better to vote on the ones you know than just skip the whole award.
10. Voting will take place via LiveJournal polling in the crowdfunding community, open to all. Polling is by popular vote, with checkboxes; you may vote for all of the projects in a category that you admire. (There may need to be more than one poll question per category, and runoffs, if the number of nominees is high. LJ has a limit to how many options there can be per question in a poll.) This year voting for your own project is permitted.
11. Winners will be announced after the polling is completed.
How You Can Help
As a relatively new award, Rose and Bay depends on your enthusiasm to make it a success. Here are some ways you can help that happen:
1) Make some nominations. Leave yours in a comment to this post, and watch for separate posts to appear for the other five categories.
2) Mark the voting period on your calendar. Make sure you come back to this community in February to cast your votes.
3) Promote the Rose and Bay Award by blogging about it, emailing your friends, posting it on social networks, or any other method you can imagine. Boost the signal on Facebook, Twitter, and whatever other social networks you frequent. Everyone is encouraged to spread the word as far as possible whether you are a creator, a patron, or a curious bystander.
4) If you're a patron or audience member, highlight your favorite crowdfunded projects from 2011 and direct people back to the award. Are you following other patrons whose tastes match your own to see what they sponsor or recommend? Mention them too! This makes it easier for people to find eligible nominees.
5) If you're a creative person, let your audience and patrons know which of your projects are eligible for the Rose and Bay Award, including a link to the relevant nomination page(s). Do you have an "honor wall" or other place acknowledging your patrons? Mention that too! Let your fans know there is a way for them to honor your project and the patrons who make it possible.
