You probably know by now that I'm a huge fan of Paula Begoun, aka "The Cosmetics Cop," for her analytical and scientific approach to cosmetics and skin care and their respective industries. I've been a fan of hers for years and most of my skin care products are from her line. I like that she defines what each ingredient does and she doesn't add extra, unnecessary, stuff. I like that she parses through the bullshit and talks about what matters: sun protection and quality formulations (with appropriate packaging ( ... )

Well, she needs to brush up on Egyptian history (no, they did not bury their family members or slaves alive with the king, and they did not practice human sacrifice). There's an interesting chapter on beauty in RED LAND, BLACK LAND by Barbara Mertz discussing their use of ochre and ground-up malachite, among other minerals, in cosmetics. Obviously not up to modern cosmetic-grade standards, and obviously no more inherently good for you than any other "all natural" substance (arsenic is also all natural, but I wouldn't want to put any on my face). But any article starting off with a bunch of bogus "facts" makes me view the whole thing with a grain of salt.
