Here it is all fast and furious:

1. I'm going to need upper jaw surgery to correct my painful crossbite.
2. I've already gotten the braces needed for the first stages of correction thanks to the lovely people who have been giving me money.
3. I need surgery in one year. One year.4. The surgery involves cutting my upper jaw in three places and my ( Read more... )

Oh, ouch! Meanwhile, hang onto every red cent (I don't have to tell you that. You do.) This absolutely has to happen. When is the surgery supposed to be?

That's horrible! Please keep your chin up, Rachie. There's gotta be another way.

That really blows about the insurance and it's lack of helping. I hope everything works out for you, perhaps keeping up the donations campaign will help.

Hello, I had orthognathic surgery four weeks ago and my insurance paid for it. At first, they denied me, saying that it wasn't a covered benefit under my plan. I then asked for an appeal, and had my primary care doctor, my dentist, my orthodontist, and my oral surgeon write letters explaining why this procedure was medically necessary. The insurance company then agreed to pay for the surgery. It doesn't matter whether your plan covers it or not. If you can get your doctors to say that it is an absolute medical necessity, and you keep pushing them, they will eventually relent and agree to pay for it. Just keep pushing.

Did you get them to cover it? celticmoonlight March 1 2010, 00:37:33 UTC
I noticed this post was from a while back, and was wondering if you had success in getting it covered by the insurance co. I'm having the same problem. I need upper and lower jaw surgery but my insurance lists the surgery as an exclusion, as I'm under the HMO BCBS plan. I also have a deviated septum with restricted breathing, and the surgeon mentioned that he may be able to get them to cover it if he says that's the main reason for the surgery, which is medically necessary. : /
