Aaaaahhhh, a new year of reading. This will be a big, busy reading year for me, since I'm now on the Morris Award Committee (starting this February!) and will be reading tons of YA debut novels, and of course I'm still reviewing YA (and sometimes adult SF/F) for Booklist. You are the second person I know to rave about Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, I will have to read this one.

I liked Mercury, thought it was a bit deeper than many GN, and I'm hoping I can get kids at my school reading it. Gosh, they are reading Little Rock Nine and lots of the nonfiction GN, I think they'll like this, too.

I'm glad someone else is recommending it, too! I wish it had won the Morris Award instead of The Freak Observer (just for notoriety's sake, not that Freak Observer is bad). It's not leaping off my shelves like I'd like, though, probably because it is quite odd and the cover, while I think is awesome, isn't helping with the teen audience. I don't know -- I wonder if it is a book more for the 20-something crowd than for the average high schooler. Even the music references are older.

I agree with you about Mercury -- definitely deeper than a lot of teen graphic novels. I think I wanted more resolution to the present storyline (I found the historical one more interesting), and I was a little confused by the ending.
