Better late than never, right? I plan on catching up and writing several posts this week, including doing my June books list and writing about my experiences at ALA in New Orleans, which includes stalking authors, hustling for ARCs, being late for all my committee meetings, trying to shell shrimp surreptitiously (say that three times fast!), ( Read more... )

D'oh! I totally just had this conversation with a GoodReads friend, too. But this one I blame on my lack of LiveJournal lately. Too bad -- I would have loved to meet you in person! I didn't know too many people there. Are you going to midwinter in Dallas? I'm on a selection committee so I will be at that one, too.

How was your ALA experience? I had a great time but I kept wishing I had more to do outside of the convention center. I also wish I had planned ahead a little better for all the freebies -- I restricted my galley grabbing to what I could fit in my luggage. But I did meet Laini Taylor and Lish McBride, so my life is complete. (c:

I had a good time--by Sunday I needed to get away from the convention center, too, so I went on a bus tour that took us through the historic area, to a cemetary, around the downtown area, and out to the 9th ward to see the Katrina devastation. I'm glad I did it--the area near my hotel looked like every other big city, so I got to see a little more. And I made my traveling companions go to Bourbon St. with me, which was fun.

I shipped two boxes of books home; in fact, one of them beat me home which was amazing. I tried to be judicious in what I took, too. And I managed to meet and fangirl Jonathan Stroud, which was awesome. Hey! Were you at the Booklist-sponsored panel Friday night at 8:00? Please tell me you weren't the woman sitting behind me who actually filed her fingernails during the question/answer!

HA, no, that wasn't me, thank God. I got into New Orleans late Friday afternoon went to the Daughter of Smoke and Bone party Friday night, so I missed all of the panels. It sounded like a good one!

Meeting Jonathan Stroud would definitely cause me to fangirl, too. I fangirled Lish McBride and Laini Taylor and Maureen Johnson, and Guy Gavriel Kay a little bit. I wanted to fangirl Cat Valente, but I had a meeting when she was signing. Maybe I will be able to stalk her some other time. (c:
