[Hell didn't seem too terrible so far. The burning cinders marring his flesh and the knowledge of pain to come and the constant, cycling memory of Pete's expression as Belial dragged him down were all...minor. Yeah, minor. No lies there at all ( Read more... )

[And it's some time still before the demon finally decides it time to actually grace Jack with his presence. A bit of time for the mage to adjust, maybe, time for one simple thought to, hopefully, finally sink into that too think skull of his: his time was up. And this time there was no way out of it.]

[When he does finally show, there are no footfalls on the dead, cracked ground to indicate his arrival. He's at Jack's side, as if he never left it in the first place, and he takes a long, almost relieved breath of his native air.]

Make yourself at home, Jack. [You remember that smug, sadistically excited smile from right before your fall, bud? That one with all the teeth?] I'd hate for you to be uncomfortable.

[Jack couldn’t mask his surprise when Belial appeared like a ghost in his peripheral vision; he flinched away, and the corner of his mouth curled down into a sneer.  He could only hope the demon hadn’t noticed the crack in his confidence.]

[One more throaty cough later, Jack spat everything he could rattle up at Belial’s maddeningly well-shined shoes.  Catharsis followed almost immediately; he relaxed and returned the grin, making sure to show as many bloodied teeth as he could.]

A few fans and an air freshener might be nice, if you’re taking suggestions.

[If the way Belial's smile twisted just that much more was any indication, the flinch wasn't missed. He looked positively ecstatic: even the mage's little show of disrespect didn't seem to faze him in the slightest.]

[And that probably made the whole situation that much worse.]

Still such a smart-arsed little bastard, despite all you've been through. I knew there was a reason I liked you, boy. [His hand shot out with predatory speed, wrapped around the man's throat and pulled him close. Not to the point of choking, but his grip was firm, wicked black claws just short of breaking skin.]

You have no idea how much I'm going to enjoy this.

This is a shite way to treat someone you like! [Belial’s black eyes and all-too-sharp teeth so close to his face didn’t help the knot of unease growing in the pit of Jack’s stomach. He clawed at the demon’s hands, trying hard to pull them away from his throat and straighten to his full height.]

[Fear he didn’t quite want to admit to made him a little clumsier and a great deal more panicky, but Belial still had a ways to go before he’d beat the smartassery out of Jack. With one cursory up-and-down look (as best as he could manage when being forced to hunch over awkwardly), he snorted condescendingly.]

I’m not the little one here, mate.
