Zidane wasn't doing much better than his wife - he wasn't the one giving birth, but he was the one getting his hand crushed, pulling her hair out of her face, wiping her forehead with cool compresses, and only leaving when absolutely necessary. Zidane wasn't about to miss the birth of his child, and so every time Dagger yelled at him, every time she nearly broke his hand, he just gritted his teeth and hung on. He was almost as exhausted as she was by the time it was finally done.

But all of that was forgotten in an instant when there was that pause, and his head turned instantly to the sound of that little gasp, his eyes widening and his jaw slowly dropping. He couldn't stop staring - a baby. They'd actually done it. They'd brought a new life to Gaia.

"...A girl?"

With everything that had happened recently, Rosa had been so distracted she'd almost forgotten... But the call in the middle of the night had roused her and she'd remembered... Her friend was giving birth! She'd raced down to take her place, coaxing Garnet during the birth and healing where necessary. The castle staff and servants were there to help and Rosa was especially grateful that Zidane took over keeping Garnet's face clean and cool. That would help the rest of them ( ... )

Dagger had never felt any urge so strongly as the one to reach out and take the infant in her arms. Still, she hesitated, not trusting the strength of her arms, still exhausted, one hand still dangling loosely in Zidane's grasp. She stared, eyes full of wonder, as she took in those tiny features, the feathery blonde hair, so much like her father's, and the tiny, pearly bump on her equally tiny head. So very small... Then, she squeezed Zidane's hand, looking up at him, and with a tilt of her head, wordlessly urging him to take his daughter.

Their daughter. Such an amazing, unbelievable thing.

Nothing had shocked him speechless before, ever. Zidane always had a smart comment, a remark, something to tease about - whatever it was, he always said it. Not even leaning the truth about his origins had stopped that. But this... This was, simply, the most amazing, unbelievable thing that had ever happened to him, even more than when they'd been married, and he couldn't find any words to express it.

He looked more than a little comical for a few seconds, turning his head back and forth between Dagger and the bundle in Rosa's arms, eyes wide with surprise. "Y-You want me to take her?"

He'd drop her! He knew it!
