Age:  15

History:  Born and raised in a sleepy town in Destiny Islands. Even as a child he longed for adventure, sneaking to a little island and exploring it with his best friend, Riku. Around the time Sora is five-years-old, the mayor and his daughter, Kairi moved to their town, Sora and Riku befriending her right away. The three became inseparable and nine years later, they start building a raft to explore different worlds together. During this time, Sora begins having strange dreams where he’s fighting creatures formed of shadows, hearing the same voice speak to him, guiding him through the dream. One day while they’re preparing the raft, Sora slips into the Secret Hideout that he shares with Riku, finding a strange door at the end. When he examines it, a hooded man appears and speaks to him cryptically before disappearing without a trace.

The night before they’re ready to leave, a storm hits the Islands and Sora, worried about the raft, heads out to check on it. When he reaches the dock, he finds that Riku and Kairi’s boats are already tied to the dock and that his dream has become reality, the shadow creatures slipping across the sands in dark puddles, gathering up into solid form to strike out at him. His wooden sword merely passed through the shadows as if he was fighting an illusion but he knew they were real enough as their claws tore at his clothes. He ran down the beach, heading for the raft until he spotted Riku standing near the paopu tree. The storm was getting closer, wind picking up around him as he reached Riku. Riku spoke nonsense, determined to leave the Islands, saying he found the power to leave together with Sora and Kairi, at all costs, even if they never saw their parents again. The shadows seemed to have caught up with them, swirling around their feet and sucking them into the ground. Sora reached out for Riku’s outstretched hand but it was already too late and the darkness overtook him. He came to in the dark room from the dreams, the same comforting voice guiding him through. At the last room, a large creature forms from his shadow and attacks him. Before he can defeat the creature however, another pool of shadows appears on the ground, sucking him in as the shadow looms over him as he stretches out his hand.

He reappeared near the paopu tree, holding a large key in his hand and Riku was nowhere in sight. Thinking that Riku had gone to their Secret Hideout, he headed over, finding Kairi standing in front of the mysterious door. As he approaches her, the door bursts open, a strong wind sending both of them flying and Kairi passed through him as if she had been an illusion. Only fragments of it still standing in a purplish abyss as the large shadow from Sora’s dream appears, ripping away at the remaining islands. Sora uses the key he found to fight the creature, apparently the only thing that can stop them, and manages to defeat it. However, it’s too late to save the Islands and he’s sucked into the abyss.

He’s awoken by a dog licking his face but it quickly runs away and he finds himself in the deserted alley of a town he’d never seen before. He explores the different districts of the town; finding only locked doors, more shadow creatures and empty streets. He returns to the district that he came from and is confronted by a man with a strange sword. “They’ll come for you, and they’ll keep coming for you, as long as you carry that blade.” He gestured to the key Sora carried before charging at him. Sora barely manages to beat him, staggering at the end of the fight, forcing out a couple of words before passing out from exhaustion. Sora wakes in the town’s hotel, his key propped against the wall with the man standing next to it.

The man-Leon-lifts the sword, brandishing it for a moment before it disappears, reappearing in Sora’s hand. Leon explains that it is the Keyblade, an important weapon used in the fight against the Heartless. When a person’s heart is stolen, they become a Heartless, creatures that feed on the Hearts of others and are drawn to the power of the Keyblade. Traverse Town, a place that seems to call those from destroyed worlds to it, the world that Sora came to after Destiny Islands was destroyed. It’s a lot to deal with but Sora handles it well enough, determined to find Riku and Kairi. Leon wants Sora to meet some people that may be able to help him find his friends but before he can, Heartless break in through the windows and they’re forced to fight. Sora gets separated from the Leon, finding himself in the last district. It is here that he meets Goofy and Donald, King Mickey’s Guard and Magician respectively. The King went missing some time ago and they’ve been traveling to different worlds in search of the Keyblade and King Mickey.

Sora decides to go with them after some encouragement from Leon, saying traveling with Donald and Goofy may be the only way to find his friends. They travel to different worlds, unable to find clues to the King’s whereabouts or Riku and Kairi’s, but they get into enough trouble along the way. Donald decides that it’s time for Sora to learn magic so the gang heads back to Traverse Town to meet with a wizard. When they finish, Sora heads out for a walk around the town on his own, sensing someone behind him, he draws his sword and spins around, only to find Riku there. He tugs at his cheeks to make sure he was real and introduces him to Goofy and Donald, asking them if Riku could come along. Donald is against it and Sora tries to argue with him, turning back to Riku and finding that he’s disappeared again. It isn’t until Monstro that they meet again but a change seems to have come over Riku, he seems hateful of Sora but doesn’t fight him, saying he’s trying to save Kairi.

When Sora is trapped on the pirate ship in Neverland, he finds that Kairi had her heart stolen and is nothing but a motionless doll. When Sora manages to break free, Riku takes Kairi away and disappears again, leaving Sora behind. At Hollow Bastion, the world once home to Leon and his friends, Riku takes back the Keyblade, saying that it belonged to him the whole time. Sora manages to get the Keyblade back because Riku’s heart was becoming clouded with darkness while Sora’s remained full of light. Riku-possessed by Ansem, a mad scientist who studied the Heartless until he lost his body told him that he had Kairi’s heart. To save Kairi, Sora took up Riku’s Keyblade (given to him by Ansem when he accepted the darkness in his heart) and pierced his own heart to separate his heart from Kairi’s. He became a Heartless but with Kairi’s help, returned to normal. They went back to Traverse Town, leaving Kairi with Leon and the others.

They finally reached the End of the Worlds, where Ansem is waiting for them, ready to open Kingdom Hearts, the door connecting all worlds together. Ansem manages to open the door slightly before he’s defeated by the light within Kingdom Hearts. Sora hurries and tries to close the door with Goofy and Donald, but finds Riku behind the door, trying to pull it closed. Riku tells him he needs to close the door and to promise to take care of Kairi. Kairi appears as the lost worlds begin to reform, Sora asks her to wait for him before he returns to the road with Goofy and Donald, to search for the King and Riku.

Along the way, they’re lead to a mysterious castle in the middle of nowhere, where members of a strange organization are running an experiment of sorts. Here, a witch weaves the memories of Sora’s heart, twisting them out of sorts until his memories of Kairi are gone, the witch Namine taking her place and the people he knew and met along the way forgot about him completely. At the end, Namine asks Sora if he wants his memories back the way they were. He accepts and goes to sleep in a pod along with Donald and Goofy, sleeping for a year while Namine repairs his memories.

When Sora wakes up, he has no memories of the castle or Namine and no idea that he’s been sleeping for a year. They pick up the search for Riku and King Mickey as if they had never taken a break, meeting with a wizard, Yen Sid who King Mickey apprenticed under before he became king. The man told them of a new Heartless-the Nobodies. When a person with a particularly strong heart becomes a Heartless, the husk that is left behind becomes a Nobody. Yen Sid has no information about the King or Riku but introduced them three faeries and they craft a special outfit for Sora that would unlock the true powers of the Keyblade. The three travel around the worlds, meeting old friends and helping fight off the Heartless while asking around for Riku and the King. Along the way, people in dark coats appear out of nowhere, each of them addressing Sora as Roxas, to his great annoyance.

In the Land of Dragons, he fights a man wearing the same dark coat as the others, using a sword similar to Riku’s and seems to know his fighting style. Though he didn’t see the man’s face and the man didn’t speak a word to him, he’s positive that it’s Riku and he’s been leaving clues behind for them to find him. Sometime after this, Sora discovers that the Nobodies have been using the Hearts of the heartless Sora’s defeated with the Keyblade to feed Kingdom Hearts to open the door again. Though he hesitates, he knows that he has to push on and plans to stop them.

In the gateway between Twilight Town and The World that Never Was, Sora is confronted by a seemingly endless amount of Nobodies.  Before he can attack, Axel, one of the members of Organization XIII appears and helps fight. Axel falls back as the last Nobody is killed, saying Sora reminded him of someone, someone who made him feel like he had a heart.

They cross into the World that Never Was and as they pass a large tower, Nobodies appear and block Donald and Goofy’s way, Sora turns to help them but a dark portal appears and a member of Organization XIII steps out, summoning a Keyblade-much to Sora’s surprise. Sora thinks the hooded man may be Riku, but he says that he once defeated a Riku. Instead of answering, he says “Tell me why he picked you” charging at Sora with Oathkeeper and Oblivion Keyblades drawn. Sora manages to defeat him, the man walking past him and falling to his knees, his hood falling back. He turns and smiles back as Sora, “You make a good other.”

When they get to the castle, they run into Ansem and discover that he helped Kairi (who had been captured by the Organization) escape from the Organization and fight the Heartless. He starts to leave but Kairi stops him, calling him Riku. She makes the two hold hands, asking Sora to close his eyes. In order to repair Sora’s fragmented memories, Riku had completely embraced the powers of darkness to stop Roxas (the other side of Sora’s heart) and return him to Sora. When he embraced the powers of darkness, he lost his original appearance and took Ansem’s form.

DiZ (the real Ansem) built a device to stop the Organization from feeding Kingdom Hearts hearts. However, it overloaded and backfired, exploding and sending everyone back with a blinding light. When Sora came to, he saw Riku lying on the ground in his original form. No one could explain how it happened,  DiZ saying the heart has mysterious powers.

Sora and Riku fight Xemnas within Kingdom Hearts and prepare to return to the Destiny Islands when they think it’s finally over. Sora pauses in front of the portal, asking who he was now that Roxas was a part of him. Riku tells him he’s the same as he’s ever been. Before they can enter the portal, Xemnas attacks again, taking down the tower they’re standing on. They defeat him for the last time, finding themselves in the realm of darkness, unable to leave. Sora helps Riku to the shore and they sit together, talking about their friendship and accepting their fate to become the darkness. As they’re talking, a door appears in front of them, revealing the way back to the realm of light.

The door leads them back to the Destiny Islands where Kairi and the others are waiting for them. After King Mickey, Goofy and Donald return to Disney Castle, a letter arrives from the King, once again asking for Sora and Riku’s help.

Personality:  Sora’s a cheerful, carefree teenager. He can be dense and hardheaded most of the time but usually ends up doing the right thing (when Riku isn’t tricking him into doing something bad) though this doesn’t mean he’s above doing anything sneaky for the sake of fun. He has a lot of energy to burn and once he’s set out to do something, he becomes very motivated to finish it. His strength comes from his friends and he would do anything to protect them. He has a strong sense of adventure, jumping at any chance to explore something new and mysterious. He’ll believe almost anything Riku tells him, he even stopped believing in Santa Claus because Riku told him he wasn’t real. He tends to live in the moment and doesn’t plan things out much, but if he does something wrong, he tries to set things right. Sora can have a bad temper when the mood strikes him and easily gets into arguments with Donald or Riku. Loves any chance he can get to tease Riku about something. He has no problem working his hardest to become a hero but easily jumps at the idea of becoming a pirate as well. He has his moments of sadness but he usually tries to keep pushing ahead with a bright smile on his face.

Third-Person Sample:  [Sora hits the ground, quickly drawing his knee to his chest and sucking in air through his teeth. He takes out a potion from his pocket, tugging the bottle open with his teeth and pouring the contents onto his knee] “Ah…man…” [He shakes his head, tossing the bottle away and flopping back onto the ground, stretching out. He holds his hand up, squinting slightly and shielding his eyes from the sunlight] “The sky…looks the same wherever we go…” [He takes a deep breath, closing his eyes and letting the breeze wash over him. He opens his eyes again, watching at the clouds roll lazily by, reminded of Destiny Islands and suddenly he felt a dull ache in his heart. He pushed the feeling aside and sat up quickly, scrambling to his feet and stretching again] “No point just staying here. I might as well take a look around.”

[He took a step forward, tilting his head back] “Riiiiikuuuu! Where are yoooou!?” [He searched the empty streets, frowning slightly, folding his hands behind his head and walking slowly] “Where did everybody go?”

First-Person Sample Journal Post: [The feed flickers on, revealing big blue eyes blurred and out of focus. He holds the PDA out at arm’s length, grinning brightly from ear to ear] “I’ve never been to a world like this before.” [The smile fades slightly and he glances down] “I can’t find Goofy or Donald anywhere…I don’t even remember how I got here. Maybe this place is just part of another strange dream...”
