Will the sleepless effects only apply to the characters currently meeting the anomaly, or does it spread throughout the entire ship, no matter what level is transformed?

This question is a little late right now (orz) but after the anomaly has already swept through a level, will it still dissolve/rot any items from the ship that are taken into it?
