[it sounds like an earthquake. the ground even shakes, plants and water trembling. but if close attention is paid, the rumbling sounds more like...let's say crumbling. the sound of rocks and sand and trees tumbling into nothing. out at sea, a couple miles from the beach, the sea starts to drain into a particularly massive hole, white-tinged rushes pouring into blackness. a similar event is taking place several miles from the crash site in all directions, so that the Crucible and it's stranded passengers sit in the middle of a pock-marked island while nothingness encroaches on all sides.
the effects are immediate and pronounced. the wind dies and light eveywhere dims. the sky itself is cut off beyond a point and clouds that drift too close disappear right along with it. at the very least, this serves to drag away the cloud cover that has hovered over everything for the last few weeks.
the narrow vista of stars, growing brighter in the coming evening, might have been beautiful if not for the massive
black hole yawning wide in their center. it seems motionless, nothing more than a gap in the sky, but if one were to compare the movement of the stars and the bend to the light they give off, they might just discover that the black hole seems to be moving.
towards what? the planet, it seems.
as for Commander Orion and his promised ship...there's no sign of them.
...or is there? as the clouds part a
lone ship, different and much smaller than the craft that had previously approached the surface, descends towards the designated rock outcropping. it looks battered, the output from its engines stuttering and strained, but it manages to land with relative ease.
after several long moments, the heavy doors at its rear drop open and the promised seats are inside. it's utilitarian within, very much a transport shuttle and nothing, but what stands out is the cockpit.
no crew, no pilot. whoever landed the ship has vanished]
Details
Now this dire situation seems a tad familiar, doesn't it? Though the circumstances are quite different - a wandering black hole as opposed to a stationary one - the situation characters now find themselves is terribly familiar. How familiar? Well, as of this announcement, characters can now remember that it was a black hole that destroyed the ship last cycle. I can't guarantee that this will last, but for now the memory has returned!
This means we now begin crucible_rpg's second ENDGAME plot! The game changes that this will involve are:
• Just to remind everyone, applications are closed and will remain so until March 25! Apps can still be posted before that date, but they will not be processed until the new cycle starts!
• Everyone will want to start thinking about what state their characters will be in at the start of the new cycle. Restarts are the only time I allow for canonupdates for characters! If you'd like to update them, please send a mail to the modmail at cptganymede@gmail.com detailing what changes you will be making!
• At the start of the new cycle, players can choose just how much of the last cycle their characters remember. This can be anything from all of it to none of it, except for the identity of what exactly it was that killed them all. They can still know they died, but not how!
But what about this landing craft, eh? Shouldn't they be able to use it to escape? Sadly, the craft seats only twelve, besides the two or three to man the cockpit. While you could certainly stuff more than that in there, even at full capacity it couldn't fit everyone on the planet. However, more importantly than that, the consoles in the cockpit will ask for DNA identification. Prod, tinker, and gut the machinery as much as you'd like: without the DNA ID of whoever was flying this, the craft will not lift off again. But where could the pilot have gone?
To the Crucible maybe, but the ruins of the ship are more impenetrable than the landing craft's systems. Blasts, tools, and teleportation can't seem to make it past the ship's outer hull, and approaching on foot is quite perilous. Holes still dot the landscape, and the island of land that the characters are left with is being encroached on all sides by nothingness, but the ship itself seems to be littered with more of these holes than anywhere else. Not on the ship, just around it, which is quite interesting. The ship is completely free of holes or missing pieces! Curious, no? Sadly, this doesn't do the characters much good when they can't get in it, does it?
The only other thing to note is, well...a note. A small slip of paper left on the pilot's chair of the landing craft.
Something to think over.
The rules for death remain what they were in the last post. Something to be aware of: characters committing suicide jump immediately to the "final death" stage. And yes, they will leave a hole behind. Suicide by your own hand or assisted suicide both count; "suicide by cop", in which a character assaults another with the intention of having that other character kill them, does not count. Whether or not they do any of this is completely up to you. Who knows what being on a planet that gets consumed by a black hole will be like? On that note, things like fruits, fresh water, and the animal population are in increasingly short supply. In fact, it's nearly impossible to find game at this point. Those characters that did not stockpile supplies are in danger of dehydration and starvation. Can they steal from others? Why yes, they can, but please clear it with other players beforehand! The same goes for killing, attacking, destroying the home of, etc. Use common courtesy guys. :3
On that note, I will now formally announce that I am leaving on my vacation. I unfortunately do not have anyone to designate as temporary mod while I am away, so that means I'm essentially leaving the roleplay to you guys! Try not to make it a mess, alright? ;D I will be gone from tomorrow, the 14th, until next Saturday, the 21st. This means I will not be here to field questions, update the lists, or anything of that nature. There is a slight chance I'll be able to check the mod email at least a couple times over the course of the week, so if you have a super big emergency, please send an email to the mod mail at cptganymede@gmail.com!
So, if you have any questions about the endgame or any of the information provided above, please ask them here before tomorrow, because tonight is the only time I will have to be answering questions! Thank you everybody and see you soon!
