The first scenario involves you gambling your earnings on a game of chance. Should you win, you will receive a much higher percentage than the wager that was originally placed. The ratio would be well in your favor. However, should you fall short of your goal, the loss would be one-half the sum that you would otherwise need. As this is insufficient payment for what you require, the opportunity cost is effectively nil.
Still, nothin' wrong with combining business with pleasure, huh? Lot more fun payin' the bills with gambling than working some shitty job every night...
Uhm... well... I know you don't really like classes, but it's only one more year, right? And... you could have a better job after you graduate from school than if you never finish school at all... And if you have a good job, you can earn lots and lots of money. ^^ And if you want also spent it on poker...
W-well, then... maybe... it's a difficult decision. =/ If only you could know right now whether you would win it or not... That would make it easier. I... I mean... if you already knew for certain you'd win, it'd be a good idea, but if you knew for certain you'd lose, it might be better not to do it...
OOC: And says that without realizing that she could give it a try. =D
Allright, this may not be much of my business, but since it seems like an open enough question, I'll toss my two cents in.
First Cent - Maybe it's not a good idea to put up all your money on one card game. Kinda seems like you're puttin' a little too much risk than is worth the reward.
Second Cent - If ya still feel the need to play some poker, I could loan ya some cash! Just ask, and I'll get it to ya. Allright, so maybe it won't be THAT quick, but I can sure can get before the game!
This ain't about gettin' to play some game. This is 'bout tryin' to raise enough money for tuition!
If I play, and I win, I get enough money to pay the bills. Hell, if I was playin' the stock market instead folks would be callin' this a sound financial strategy to accrue long-term wealth. But it's cards, so folks just assume this is some damn addiction instead of a job.
Way I see it, I'd be a fool to pass up a good opportunity. Prolly won't get another chance to really double-up like this, least not before next semester rolls 'round. An get off my damn back about that. Didn't figure it'd be a gamble if I didn't figure I'd lose.

See, if I win a few hands I might have enough to pay for that last year. If I don't...I might not make it to next semester.

Not that I care either way. Go ahead and do what you think is best.
