hi! i've got you for the_ass_fest, and i popped over to your journal to start getting a feel for what you might like to read.
so i'm completely anonymous, and this is totally unsolicited, but TAKE THE YEAR OFF. i blew through college in three years and graduate school in one, and i'm STILL paying the price for the exhaustion i incurred. if you seriously want to go to law school, take the time off, Experience Life And Stuff, and keep rested up for those last two super-important years of college!
(i do not know german, so sadly, i cannot include it in your surprise. ONOZ.)
i completely welcome and appreciate the advice! the more people that chime in on this, the more comfortable i'm going to be with my decision. everyone has been so supportive so far! what you did was like my Grand Plan for my entire life, and while i still think its totally admirable i know i dont have that sort of thing in me anymore.
anyway, massive excitement regarding the exchange! if you have any questions id be glad to answer them for you, especially since i just realized the person i left as my contact has deleted her livejournal :(. it's far off but i cant wait for all the fics! hopefully i'll be reading my surprise from germany :D.
Random as this is, I think taking a year off might be an excellent decision. I'd considered taking a year off after high school, but I didn't get into a school that was quite good enough for my parents (but seriously? It's good enough for me. I mean, I wanted to study international relations, and this school is possibly the best in the country to study that, so I think it all works out). So even convincing them to come to a different country for my undergrad studies was hard enough (when this wasn't an "Ivy League" school -- I know you go to one, but it isn't all about the label, is it?). Having them let me take a year off? Impossible
( ... )
exactly! every point you mad is exactly in line with what I have been feeling. I never would have considered a year off before in my entire life, i wanted to blaze through everything, but since coming to college i realize that all those people who DID take a year off are so much better off. They got a year of experiences that 98% of us are missing out on. It's so nice that people keep convincing me that this decision is the right one for me! thanks for your advice!
I know what you mean. At college, I feel like my life experiences have been so limited as compared to those of everyone around me. At the same time, it made me realize that they've been a lot more than those of so many other people -- you know those people that have lived in three different countries and speak four different languages? I just realized I'm one of them, though I'd never thought of it that way. right now though, I just feel like coming here for college was one of the best decisions of my life. Possibly the best.
