In February, I was lucky enough to go to Florida with my family to visit my brother, nephew and sister-in-law. The second night I was there, there was to be a Space Shuttle launch a few (five) hours north. Sadly, May 2010 will supposedly be the last shuttle launch -- then we have to wait for 2014/15 for the Orion flights to start . . .

It was utterly amazing. I'm told I'm ridiculously lucky to have seen a launch on my first try -- they are commonly scrubbed and postponed.

I was absolutely amazed at how fast, how bright and how silent the launch was. It was above the clouds before we even heard it . . . and then it went on for 15 minutes of roaring.
