But how if Aiba forgot that he talked to Sho in the very next day? Or the shocking fact that Aiba has more than one personality?

Third Entry

Spring, April 14th

I accepted that I’m a coward; more than anything I’m not ready yet to face Aiba… Nor Matsumoto… I had to restrain myself from throwing out all my books, they are useless, I don’t need fucking useless information about schizophrenia, delusional disorder, or multiple personality disorder… is that what happens to him…? Multiple personality? The only thing I hope for is DSM (note : DSM stand for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, provides a common language and standard criteria for the classification of mental disorders). It would explain how to face someone with personality disorder; what if somehow we like a person that could hit us right in the face yet smile like nothing happened in next morning. What do we need to do if we like that kind of person? What to do when we are frustrated because we have to avoid him yet we would never be able to explain the reason to him because he is not aware about his condition. What if the other personality hates us so much yet the real person keeps looking at us in a pleading gaze, asking for explanation…

How should I act if I miss him too much to be even unable to control myself from hugging him right there and then whenever I see him sending me his most hurtful look…

-Aiba Masaki-
Symptoms of dissociative identity disorder:
1. He has more than one alter and both took control of his body, everything about him changed, from attitude, behavior, expression, parlance and body movements. The first alter is the one that they used the name, Aiba Masaki and the other alter is named Matsumoto Jun.
2. He gets amnesia from time to time, although he is still able to recall his personal information. The period of the memory loss is same with the period when the other alter appeared.

To do list:
- Fix your heart and mind, you hurt him Sho and you know you hate that fact. Stop messing around with someone’s feelings!

Sho threw his journal in frustration as he grunted, lowered his head to reach for his hair and tousled it in desperation. He couldn’t hurt Aiba any longer than this, but it seemed like he can’t find a way out from his problem. He could just leave him and ignore Aiba forever but he wasn’t able to be so ignorant and indifferent towards Aiba. Every part of that guy raised all emotions inside Sho had, he would never be able to look into Aiba’s eyes without feeling guilty.

Then what about his own feeling? Now this problem wasn’t anymore only Aiba’s but also his… What’s the point of Aiba’s existence for him? He didn’t need to be so persistent to think about his relationship with Aiba if he felt nothing towards that guy, but if it’s not nothing, then what is it…? There were so many times Aiba ran after him and asked why does Sho ignores him, although the later never opened his mouth, in the end he never gets anything from Sho.

He massaged his temple slowly to lessen the headache, he practically locked himself inside his room, chose not to meet his neighbor resolutely. He straightened his back and brought himself lazily towards his terrace. It was fourteenth afternoon after he started to neglect Aiba, reluctantly he accepted that he felt lonely deep inside his heart but he couldn’t explain anything to Aiba anyway. Is it good to lie for him or is it better to tell him the truth, Sho couldn’t decide it. He slid the door and startled a little bit when he saw the guy who didn’t leave his mind for the last fourteen days without even needing his presence, standing on his own veranda. It seemed like he noticed the sound of the sliding door as he turned his head and looked straightly to Sho’s eyes.

Sho’s mouth opened but produced no sound at all, as Aiba frowned to him, biting his lower lip, Sho could see how his eyes became teary as he turned back his gaze to somewhere on the city scenery.

“I’m sorry…” Sho said softly as he started to slide his door to close.

“No need to say that if you don’t feel sorry at all,” Aiba turned back at him, his expression sternly, disappointed, hurt… but after some seconds in silence, a grin was plastered on his lips. He wiped his tears as he said, “that’s so nice of you Sho-san… to think about my feelings so much…”

Sho’s eyes grew bigger as he wavered on his question, “Matsumoto-san?”

The other’s smile grew even wider, “I saw how he hit you so bad because you wanted to kiss Masaki. It’s Nino, I’m Ninomiya Kazunari… It’s my pleasure…”

Sho was gaping, his mind torn between the fact that Aiba has another alter, named Ninomiya Kazunari or the fact that Matsumoto appeared because he tried to kiss Aiba. He swallowed nothing to clear his throat, “I… He didn’t want me to kiss him…?” It was so crazy for Sho to speak his heart out about his doubts about a person while that person himself was the reason for it.

The other smiled to him, “You actually thought about Masaki a lot, didn’t you? You asked about it first before even able to voice out your shock to see me…”

“I have to get used to it anyway…” Sho looked back to the other’s eyes who had the same eyes as the guy he liked but the feeling was totally different, if someone said that Aiba has two identical twins he would love to believe it. Aiba has a pair of round brown eyes but Nino’s gaze made them narrow, looked more sharp, all the chastity of his eyes were gone.

Aiba crossed his hands as he leaned his back up to the porch, “What for…? You left him anyway, dumped him like he is trash that doesn’t have feelings at all…” Aiba’s words felt like needles for Sho, piercing his heart without mercy.

“I didn’t!”

“You did!” Aiba shrieked, “He is running away from you, that’s why I’m here… you hurt him and he is always so afraid of pain…”

So that was it, he tried to run away whenever Sho tried to get closer to him, he was afraid that Sho would hurt him, and he did… He just did hurt Aiba. Matsumoto would appear if he felt frightened, Sho tried not to think about how hurt he was because Aiba was frightened of him, he couldn’t reject me that’s why he ran away and left the rest to Matsumoto. Then he would run away again if he wanted to close away from the pain and left the rest to Ninomiya.

Sho leaned his shoulder to the door, tired with everything, “I’m sorry… let me talk to him…”

Aiba smirked to him again as response, “He doesn’t want to… He doesn’t want to come back to the consciousness… he closed and locked himself again…”

Sho frowned as he asked him again, “Where?”

“Somewhere inside the unconsciousness…” Aiba observed him, “You planned to tell him about me and Jun?”

“He doesn’t know…” Sho knew it didn’t answer his question nor emphasis about something, both of them already knew that Aiba knew nothing about his own problem, Sho tried to not add any ‘disorder’ word on it. “What happened?” he hoped Ninomiya would understand his question, he didn’t want to make this new alter hate him as well.

“Why do you care anyway?”

“I can’t stop thinking about…” Sho looked into the other’s eyes and tried to project his concerns, “him…”

It felt like a confession for Sho but at the same time it wasn’t, he buried everything inside but with the other one gazing at him, made his mind daze and he knew he would burst out everything, “I don’t know how to face him, I have no confidence, while I know I can’t leave him just like that! What do I have to do to help him… to help… you…”

“We don’t need any help, thank you,” The sarcasms colored his voice as Sho shook his head, “That’s not what I meant… I have no intention to throw you into a mental hospital, but I know, my way would never be easy with him…”

“You are afraid, huh?”

“I do… What if I became a useless thing for him later, what if I fail to treat his wound, what if… I hurt him…”

Sho practically didn’t know anything about multiple personality, the only thing he got from two years of his studies was only that most of the people with that disorder faced a terrible traumatic event, it was usually caused by a sexual abuse. He didn’t know Aiba’s past at all but he knew that there is no way Aiba’s personality would split without any reason at all.

“Honestly talking, you think too much…” The other’s words returned him from his thoughts, “he thinks you think he is a freak, just like all people always do. He thinks you dumped him while he didn’t even know what he did to you, just like all people always do. He is disappointed, angry, sad, mad… and hurt… because the one he loves thinks about him the same way as all people always do…” Aiba tilted his head as he continued, “You said this and that and all because you think about Masaki, care about him, but those are nothing but lies, bullshit! You just think about yourself, you are afraid to face him, you even afraid to face your own feelings! You are afraid to face yourself! It’s true that he is running away from you but you are also running away from yourself!”

“What is it that makes you better than other people then? What makes you different?” Aiba walked slowly to his door as he said, “Don’t do everything half heartedly, it will just hurt him! You half hearted kindness sickens me!”

This person wasn’t Aiba Masaki, he saw deep into Sho’s heart, uttered out his thoughts ruthlessly. Aiba was more… introvert about his thoughts, swing the lead a cheerful guy, he was more flimsy… To his own shock, Sho still hoped that Aiba was normal, as normal as a cheerful guy that fell because he stumbled over his own feet on the first day they met, a little weird but funny and kind. Sho was still hoping that all facts about multiple personality are only written on the papers but seeing Aiba with his very own eyes, Sho needed to face and believe it, happy or not. He had no other choice than facing Aiba’s condition no matter what, there was already no way back for his feelings for the guy…

He lifted his head and smiled to Aiba who frowned immediately, “What? You creep me out!”

Sho stomped to his direction, used his hand as the lever and swayed his body further back before he threw himself to the other’s veranda. Aiba freaked out loudly, “For God’s sake, have you lost your mind?!”

“Nino, I will never leave him…” Sho stood calmly in the other’s veranda.

“Could you be more stupid? No need to jump here to say that!”

“Let me talk to him…” Sho moved closer to him as the later stepped back.

“I told you he closed himself!”

Sho moved forward again, “I know you can push him back to the consciousness, Nino…”

Aiba smirked to him, “What will you do?”

“Whatever it is has no relation with you… But you have my words, I will never leave him… Now, bring him back please…”

Aiba’s or better Nino’s judging gaze observed him before he closed his eyes and left Sho in the soreness. After some seconds Aiba opened his eyes again, now after he is back to the consciousness, his eyes splayed in shock. Sho let him absorb the condition he was in before saying anything as Aiba started to look around and his gaze stopped at Sho’s face. “How… Why are you in my veranda?” he sputtered.

Sho smiled calmly, “To apologize to you…”

“What?” Spontaneously, Aiba made distance from Sho by stepping back.

“It’s okay Aiba-kun… I won’t get closer if you don’t want to…” Sho lifted his hands between the distance of their bodies.

“I thought you didn’t want to talk to me anymore, nor see me!” Aiba bawled as the tears started to flood his face.

Sho was panicked when he saw the latter’s tears and almost pulled him onto his embrace when Aiba stepped back again, frightened. If this condition continues he would give up on his body again to Matsumoto. “I’m sorry… I have no intention of leaving you… I was just confused…”

“Of what?!”

“Of everything!” Sho hoped he could at least touch Aiba to express his feelings but he knew Aiba would never let him, “I’m confused of my own feelings, why you never leave my mind… why you control my emotions although you are not around! I have so many questions that I can’t even ask anyone for answers… if this feeling wasn’t as confusing as it is I would have ran after you earlier…”

“Then, did you find the answer…?”

Sho shook his head, “No…”

“So why are you here?” There was pain in his voice that Sho couldn’t bear to hear longer.

“I don’t know… Masaki…” Sho stared at the other’s eyes, while Aiba’s face slowly turned its color into pink, noticed that Sho called him with his first name. “Give me questions to make things easier for me…”

“Do you like me?”

Sho nodded his head, “I do…”

Aiba turned his gaze to somewhere else before he turned back at Sho, determination reflecting from his eyes, “Then, do you love me?”

“What is love, Masaki?” Sho voiced out his rhetorical question but continued, “If love is when I’m the one who neglected you but never able to drive you out of my mind, if it means I chose to stay beside you although you will never let me to touch you, nor hug or kiss you… then I love you…”

“What if love means you don’t leave me forever…?”

“Then I love you…”

“What if love means that you have to date someone who is a freak like me?”

“Then I love you…”

Aiba looked like lacking of words as Sho continued, “I don’t know what happened to you in the past but I want to know… Not only for you but also for myself… I want to hug you whenever you need it, whenever I need it. I want to touch you freely… but I will wait until you completely trust me…”

“How do you know that I’m afraid if you touch me…?”

Someday Sho knew he would need to tell Aiba everything but for now… maybe for now… he could just adjust with Aiba’s point of view, that he had a kind of phobia to men, or at least towards a guy who wanted to touch him further. “It’s easy to tell when you pay attention on it…”

Aiba stayed silent that made Sho giggle, “Let’s end this awkward moment by telling me that you love me too…”

“What is the condition to love you…?” Aiba asked innocently, totally clueless.

“Nothing, just be yourself and stay beside me…”

Aiba smiled as Sho felt cold fingers reach for his hand, “Then I love you…”
