So, um, I'm just going to ramble on and on and on about this movie, because seriously? Best. Ever.
I'm still on an adrenaline rush and it's been an hour after the movie. I'm going cuh-ray-zee.
I love midnight showings. I rarely go to them, but they're always so much fun. You meet awesome people who are just as excited as you and they dress up. A group of guys came as Nick Fury, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and Hulk. Sadly, no Hawkeye. :( Hulk was awesome. The guy wore a green shirt and ripped jeans and he painted his body green. Like full on body paint -- his face, arms and legs. Legit, yo. Plus he had the Hulk hands gloves.
The movie completely and utterly surpassed all the hype. No, I mean I expected this movie to be EPIC. BEYOND EPIC. I thought for sure nothing could top my excitement and expectations. Then it DID. How often does this happen? Almost never. They gave everyone a pretty good role in the movie. I won't say equal amounts because I think Tony appeared the most, but they each had some epic moments and some hilarious moments. I will say that Hulk stole the show, hands down. I was surprised by that, but holy crap, did he. Black Widow even had a prominent and IMPORTANT role. All her roles thus far have been pretty useless, so it was nice to see her have importance and see her vulnerable. I'm not a fan of ScarJo, but she rocked this movie.
I honestly don't even know where to begin. All I want to do is flail, flail, flail. Maybe I will. ;)
Tony/Pepper
One word: Adorable.
No joke. I'm so glad RDJ fought for Pepper to be in this movie because it really made it worth it. It definitely made Tony's storyline more believable anyway. Plus, it was just freaking cute. Their banter in the Stark Tower with her possibly owning 12% of the building but he can be persuaded to 15%. Pepper not being satisfied and Tony knowing that she'll use it against him. The fact that Tony basically dedicated the building to her. "This tower is here because of you." Plus, he said he was on a date and that just made me all asldkjfal;skdjfa;lskdjfalshdglaskdf melt inside. Then Coulson breaks in and says he needs to speak to Tony and it's urgent. He tries to hand Tony the file and he refuses because he doesn't like being handed things and Pepper takes it and gives it to Tony and it's all sorts of cute. Coulson tries to get Pepper to leave because it's all top secret blahblahblah and Tony blabs away about the Avenger Initiative that Pepper supposedly doesn't know about at all... except she totally does and that says more about their relationship than anything else.
He tells her everything.
Okay, not everything because he never told her he was dying. I imagine they had a frank conversation post IM2 about hiding things from each other and if he really wanted to make this relationship work, he needed to come clean so they can learn to trust each other. So, of course, he tells her about Fury's plan. Top secret plan. Plus, it's Pepper. Pepper knows all.
She whispers something naughty in his ear which gets him all excited and then kisses him and ;alskdjfa;lsdkfja;lsdfja;sldf. THESE TWO SLAY ME. And Coulson is all awkward during this whole exchange. And Tony gets jealous for a brief moment when Pepper calls him Phil and Tony's like, "His first name is Agent" LOL. alksdf;alksdfj;l
Okay, the holographic stuff always amazes me. When Tony scattered the files of each Avenger on the holo, I was like OMGALSDJ A;LSDKFJAL;SKDFJALS;DKFJASLD NERDGASM. And I love that he did that in front of Pepper to show her everything, that he's not hiding anything from her despite the fact Coulson is there watching.
Tony: Weren't we having a moment?
Pepper: We were having 12% of a moment.
LOLOLOL. OH PEPPER. YOU HAD SOME OF THE BEST LINES. LOOK AT YOUR WITTY BANTER. GUH.
Then later on, Tony sacrificing himself nearly made me pass out. I was like NOOOOOO NOT TONY TOO! YOU CAN'T KILL HIM OFF TOO! WE NEED IRON MAN 3! And Jarvis offers to call Pepper and Tony says why not. Then the call rings and rings and Pepper's too busy watching the chaos on the tv screen that she misses his phone call and alsdkjfa;lsdkjfas;lkdfj; guh, the hurt on Tony's face. Then he succeeds in sending the missile away and passes out and almost doesn't get through the portal but does and he's not waking up and he's falling falling falling--until Hulk catches him and breaks his fall. Cue relieved sigh.
Then at the end where they're in the ruined Tower and going over the hologram schematics, they're all cute. Pepper playing with the diagram and Tony coming up beside her and wrapping his arm around her a;slkdfja;lsdkfja;lsdkfja;lsdfkjas;ldf and being all cute. WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO ME? WHY?
Also, of note, my cousin said that Pepper had a huge ring on her right hand that I COMPLETELY MISSED. HOW DID I MISS THAT?! So either that's just a nice ring, my cousin's hallucinating or something more is going on between Tony and Pepper than we realized. If they're engaged, I'm gonna be pissed we missed Tony proposing. I'm dying to see him stumble around and fail until he gets it right.
Okay, I'll stop with the T/P. But really, this will consume me for ages. Need this on dvd now. And fic. Lots and lots and lots of fic.
Coulson
OMG. COULSON. HIS FATE. A;LSKDFJA;LSKDFJAS;LDKFJ KILLED ME. JUST NO. HOW COULD THEY? HOW DARE THEY? IT'S COULSON. HE'S BEEN THERE SINCE DAY ONE. I LOVE HIM. AND HE'S A CAP FANBOY. AND HILARIOUS. AND AMAZING. AND AND AND AND ;ASLDKJFA;LSDFKJA;SLDKFJ;ALSKDF NOOOOO.
Everyone Else
Cap had a pretty decent role. He ended up being the leader in the end, of course. Tony actually deferred to him which was saying something. In the end, he pretty much rocked. Although I still liked his uniform in his movie better than in the Avengers.
Thor. Omg. Thor. I can't. Good fight scenes though. Had the funniest stuff happen to him. Like Hulk punching him out of nowhere was one of my absolute favorite scenes of the movie.
Speaking of Hulk, he was excellent. Mark Ruffalo did a good job with Bruce Banner. Love the Bruce and Tony bonding over their backgrounds and intelligence. I wanted more scenes with them, tbh. Also, another great scene was when Hulk totally smashed Loki into the ground a million times. Hee-freaking-larious.
Hawkeye and Black Widow are cute. As my cousin said, it was almost like a reverse Katniss/Peeta with Hawkeye being the expert archer and Black Widow as the hand-to-hand expert.
Loki was awesome. I love Loki. Don't love his stupid headdress thing that look like long horns, but I still love him.
Oh, Tony also got some of THE best lines. I don't remember them all, but he called Hawkeye Legolas, made fun of Loki's horns and a bunch of other stuff. I effing love Tony Stark. I'm going to cry like a baby when the last Iron Man movie hits the screen. RDJ won't be Tony Stark, I won't see Tony anymore (unless they make another Avengers movie) and then that means no more Tony/Pepper. :(((((((
But honestly, this movie was probably the best that anyone could've done with such a large cast. It was WELL done and well balanced at that. It flowed well, it made sense, it had humor, it had zingy one liners, it had action, it had suspense and it even had a little romance. I mean how perfect can it get? That takes some serious skills. So major, major props to Joss Whedon. Thank you for giving us an amazing script.

If you've seen the movie, LET'S DISCUSS/FLAIL/WHAT HAVE YOU. Also, who in the world was in that special credits ending? Who is the next bad guy? I can't figure it out.
