hey, I miss you. it's nice to hear that you're still happy with your scholarly pursuits in london. I might write you a letter sometime, but right now I feel like I should reconnect with the friends who are around me right now.
I miss you, too, and hope St John's is great. Do write a letter, or I'll try and do the same; I realize the difficulty of balancing long-distance correspondence with other friends' physical presence.

Hey, Nels, thanks for the comment! Do you have a weblog yourself?
I was wandering east from Bloomsbury (where I live) through the City of London towards Whitechapel. The City is London's centre of commerce, and its fabric contains both the oldest and newest bits of London. The Roman Wall runs through 1990s skyscrapers, and most of the official/bank buildings were built in the Neoclassical style between the c17-early c19; a few earlier churches survive. Street names are another sort of archaeology. Threadneedle, Ironmonger, Curtain, Hosier, Puddle Duck, Amen, Seething, and Knightrider Streets, etc. evidently derive from the localities' associations, which made me think how naming specifies. Mallow Street brought marshmallows into question. Wikipedia informs the confection's consistency relies on an extract from its eponymous plant, the Marsh Mallow.
What are you up to/where are you wandering these days?
