I got into All State. I seriously can't even believe it. I got into All State. NO ONE gets into All State. I really don't even know what to think. I'm so freakin happy and just amazingly ecstatic that I am...with the best of Iowa, really, not to sound conceited...but I mean, it says it in the book itself...only 17% of people who audition (who ( Read more... )

Dan, I am SO proud of you. *I* knew you could do it but, then again, I am smarter than you. Hehe, no, but really...I'm so happy for you. I do acknowledge that it really sucks that you won't actually be able to do it because of the play, but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices. At least you know you were good enough to do it...besides, that's what you get for being good at everything. God is smiting you or something. Or I am cursing you for getting all the talent. I'm so happy for you!!! Dude, you would totally kick ass at being a musical theatre person - so do that for your major. And even though Notre Dame is your "dream college" or whatever, don't go to it if it doesn't have the stuff you want, dipshit! College is to learn, and prepare yourself for whatever you're going to do for the rest of your life, so you better go somewhere music/theatre oriented, dork! There, see, now I'm solved all your problems. Stop feeling like crap, dork. And you better value the play a little bit...you are after all the LEAD in it. * ( ... )

I think you should think of a really awesome excuse as to why you won't go to All-State. Make it look lower than you, like it's something that isn't worthy of you. That will make everything better.

And you're picking your classes based on keeping a 4.0 GPA? Bad idea, if you ask me. Don't limit yourself because of one single number.

Yeah, it probably is a bad idea. But if it gets me into Notre Dame, it may be worth it in the end...I dunno. I change my mind every freakin day on what I want to do, and I realized today that it isn't music...I'd like to keep really involved with it in college if I can, being in several choirs at least, maybe a minor (but doubtful). I'll probably end up doing a Theatre major and a Journalism minor. Or something. I dunno, it's all too confusing, I was looking at colleges today and it's HELLA hard to figure out what's goin on, at Notre Dame especially...

I have to say, Dan, I didn't expect any less. Not too many people have to choose between all-state and the lead role in a play. That aside, in my humble (and usually wrong) opinion, you shouldn't base all your decisions on what you think colleges want or what you think will make your future better. It's hardly worth it to get into some supposedly good college to get some supposedly excellent job when you look back and realize that you have a million regrets. I'm certainly not telling you to become a slacker and just play video games or whatever you do...but you should live now, too. 4.0 is just a number; learn what makes you happy.

That's really good advice Mal. You should be a counselor or something, that really was awesome ( ... )
