Ok, replace "writer" with "Philosopher" and/or "Philosophy". Replace "writing" with the previous ones as well. What do you have? A confused Jake.

Hey man, it takes a lot to realize all that for yourself. I'm going into a field now that isn't going to make me much money for probably quite some time, but it's what I want to do, so... tally ho! Even after only knowing you for a year, I'm sure you'll find a way to make the writing thing work.
And a one-fingered salute to any who criticize or are incredulous if you share your wish to write. They deserve it.
