Your prediction is likely to be correct no matter who gets elected to clean up the mess, as it takes a while for these things to happen and unhappen.
I deleted the rest of my comment because it's not worth further upsetting you and we have some real differences of perspective and resulting opinion that aren't likely to change.
Because history is on my side. There's only one way to recover from a great depression that we've ever identified and that is with a new New Deal.
Heh. By this standard, I suppose you're defining the conquest of Britain, Gaul, Iberia, and Africa by the Saxons, Vandals, Goths, Franks, Burgundians, etc. as their century's New Deal. (In a way, it was. Archaeological studies of graves show that the kids of those who survived the invasions grew up to be bigger and healthier than their Empire-born grandparents.)
Not every New Deal is positive, either. Hitler provided Germany's New Deal; most folks would consider the outcome to be less than desirable for Germany.
The choice is clear: a new future for America or more massive trouble than we've seen in generations.
No matter who wins, the economy is in for massive trouble. After having more accounting scandals in the last decade than any time since the 1920s, the housing market meltdown is our 1929 stock market crash. Back then, by the rules of the gold standard, the US should have shipped

Huh? When I say "New Deal" I'm not talking about taking over any other countries nor am I talking about forcing everyone into some scare tactic and creating a trumped-up enemy so that we can have more war (wait... was that Hitler or someone else we know)?
I'm wary of the bailouts. We need to prevent this from becoming a huge power-grab by the White House and we need to prevent this from becoming a political trap for the congressional Dems. It's possible that this is part of another Shock Doctrine strategy to use a crisis to grab control

I think no matter WHO takes control, we're in for a mess. A few years ago Mountain Astrologer magazine predicted a huge economic collapse towards the end of 2008, and here we are. It said that it would take a good 4 years to fix it, and that the public would be wary of government officials until close to 2012 when things got re-adjusted.
But I absolutely agree with you that Obama will better work with the new deal. Obama is incredibly intelligent...pulled himself through Harvard Law of his own volition rather than being born into high class. McCain 2008 is not McCain 2000 and who knows who would be truly leading things.
