Haha. I can't think of a good enough subject heading for this post. It's very, very random, and I feel like my thoughts are just flowing out, one after the other, hence the title, "Stream of consciousness."
Here's what's been going on in school:
Filipino: Words cannot express how relieved I am that we were able to finish the Filipino project on time. I had to stay after class on Tuesday just to help out with the Liwayway "photoshoot". XD (Liwayway is the name of the magazine where the novel that was sssigned to us was published) Braving the dust bunnies, I spread out the pages of the magazines as Ferdie took picture after picture. Thank God my cold didn't get worse than it already was (and it is still horrible, to this day). Hugs to Andrea for helping out, even though she wasn't obligated to, as she was in a different Filipino class!
Let me explain. Andrea (who is different from Andria) was a schoolmate in high school, who was a year ahead of me. She went to a different university, and just this year, she transferred to the university where I'm currently studying, so she's technically a freshman here. She's my classmate in Chem, and she's very nice and very helpful. Like me, she's also a bit insecure. She likes anime. She lives far from the university and near my place. So I guess we get along just fine! It was awfully sweet of her to help us out, as we were desperately in need of help at that time.
Thank you so much, Andrea - we wouldn't have finished in time without you! And oh, I love my groupmates - Willy and Dex and Ferdie - for helping out. Even though he had a long test in Math on that Tuesday, Ferdie spent time helping me out. And Willy... thank you for doing the dirty work - editing the pics in Photoshop and converting them to PDF files! I wish I could've helped. You said that it was no trouble at all, that you accomplished it in a while. But I feel guilty; I should've helped too. :( I'm sorry if you ended up piled with lots of things to do. You're so nice (and cool - you buy from the stock market, you're good with computers and just about anything except for Lit and Filipino - which you abhor) and friendly and helpful. And you seem to have time for just about everything, because it seems that you accomplish a whole lot in a day. I look forward to working with you (as a friend, groupmate, whatever) in the future!
Yesterday, we passed the CD to Sir Egay. Hope that he approves of it and won't give it back for further editing, because the project isn't over yet - Phase Two of the project involves a critical paper on the novel's literary merit, or lack thereof!
English and Lit: Sir Exie, I LOVE HAVING YOU AS MY PROF. You always make Lit interesting. As for English 12, well... I don't really like it, but I don't hate it, either. :)
I had a consultation session with Sir Exie about my eyewitness report. I got a hybrid grade - B/B+ (yes, that was how it was written) - but Sir Exie said that we had the option to revise our papers. It was fun chatting with Sir about various things in my eyewitness report - like the good and the bad things about my paper, what I could improve on, and so on. We even went off on a slight tangent and talked about English and Lit class.
We have another paper for English 12. A critical paper. And I suck at critical thinking. T_T Oh no... I can only hope that I do well in this paper! I'm going to have to do lots of research and find tips on what makes a critical paper good.
As for Lit... oh, it's getting more and more interesting. Pretty soon, we're going to discuss A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. I've only started reading the first twenty or so pages, but I'm confident that I can finish it in a short period of time. So far, we've moved from realism to tales. Yes, the stories are a bit surreal, but they're very intriguing.
I've also been thinking about my top five favorite selections, and they are, in no particular order:
1. "First Confession" by Frank O'Connor
2. "Hills Like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway
3. "Lust" by Susan Minot
4. "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allan Poe (It's chilling and eerie. The description of the creepy black room with blood-red windows came alive in my mind. LOVED IT.)
5. "Weight" by Lakambini Sitoy (because I can relate to Ami - being fat, insecure and everything)
But who knows? Maybe that will change in the future. We still have a lot of stories to discuss, and I'm sure that most of them are going to be interesting.
Chem Lab: Aargh. I hate to say this, but I can't stand chem lab. I always end up haggard and hurried, and our teacher gives large deductions for almost everything - even erasures! >_< I'm counting down the days until Chem lab is over.
Chem Lecture: Last time, we were asked to come up with a proposal for our group reporting on how the principles of chemistry apply to a certain product, field of interest, or discipline. The topic that our group came up with was "Chemistry and Urban Legends." Basically, we're going to bring up a few urban myths/legends related to chemistry and debunk or confirm them. Think "Mythbusters" - only, I guess, less action and more talk. :) And I'm happy that I have Andrea and Willy as groupmates! Yay!!!
Tai Chi: There are moments when I think that I'm showing signs of improvement, but on the other hand, sometimes I think that I'm still as crappy as ever. I really ought to master the steps - I still get a bit confused when doing the last few moves (from Fair Lady Working at Shuttles onwards) - because we're being taught to do the forms in reverse! The final exam will be an individual effort, so I ought to do something before I end up making a total fool of myself.
Japanese: Oh, JSP. My favorite class. It makes me sad to think that I only have a semester to take this class, and that the semester's ending soon. :( I'll be taking dreary old Calculus next semester, and what's worse is that there's a possibility that I might get stuck with my blockmates' sadistic professor. >_< Japan Week is coming very, very soon, so I suppose we have to prepare for it. Lesly and I, with some help from Andrea, worked on our poster yesterday. It isn't done yet, but it will be by tomorrow, or Saturday. Also... a karaoke contest is one of the highlights of Japan Week. Should I join? Should I? I can't decide what song to sing; I have to choose something that won't be too difficult to sing, since I am an amateur, after all. And besides, I don't want to look like a big fool on stage. I have to think this through.
Misc. Stuff:
- Suddenly, it seems that I have a social life, or at least something that resembles a social life! Well, that's just for the time being, since most of my friends are turning eighteen this year. I've been invited to one debut/party after the other. Ella's debut is this Sunday, and I've been chosen to be one of the eighteen treasures. Wow; this is the first time someone asked me to be among the eighteen treasures, so I feel kind of honored! I have to get Ella something nice - a gift that she can treasure. :) Next Friday, our valedictorian, Anna, will be having her party. On September 16, it'll be Audrey's party. Who knows who else will be celebrating her eighteenth birthday? Andria? Leslie? I just remembered - Jhenel's party will be sometime in October, and Jarische has also invited me to her debut, which is sometime in November. Oh my!
- The annual Philippine book fair has already started. I never miss the book fair, because I love it so much. Where else can you find a plethora of books and book sellers gathered together in one spot? It's a bibliophile's dream come true! I could probably spend an entire day checking out books and wishing that I could buy them all (which is impossible, of course). The last day of the book fair is on Sunday, and there is no way that I'm going to pass up the opportunity to check out all the books on sale!
- I am hooked on the songs that Anna Tsuchiya sang for the "Nana" anime. I love "Lucy" and "Rose". I haven't downloaded "Kuroi Namida" yet, but I will, soon. :)
- The three-hour "Death Note" special airs tomorrow! I'm so excited that I can hardly wait. I want to know what it's all about. Someone post a summary/synopsis, please!
