Soon, it will be over

Reality is hitting me hard: I am graduating soon. I'm having finals this week. Some subjects such as Philo and LS are over and done with, and I am going to miss my profs.

My life as a student will officially be over in a matter of days.

In a matter of days. And I still don't know what to do with my life ( Read more... )

Graduating for me was really scary and sad. I didn't want to close that chapter of my life and didn't feel at all ready to enter "the real world." But, it's been about 9 months now and I'm doing okay. I still miss college a whole lot, but working isn't as bad as I'd built it up to me and it's actually really nice to get home at the end of the day and not have to worry about homework or anything like that. It's different, but no bad. You'll be okay, don't worry.

Oh, that's good to hear. I'm not sure if I'll enjoy life after college because everything seems too large-scale for me to handle, but what you said just made me feel better. Thank you!

I'm glad I was able to make you feel a bit better! It does seem overwhelming a lot - the whole searching for a job thing, trying to figure out what's supposed to be the rest of your life. It was difficult in the beginning feeling like there were so many things I needed to do to be an adult, or whatever, and it still is, but you figure it out little by little and come to realize that the things you're freaking out about aren't even things you need to worry about for another few years. Like I've been freaking out because I feel like I need to have a career right now when the reality of it is I just need a job that will give me experience that will some day lead to a career. It's all about scaling back your world and figuring out what actually is important in your day to day life. It's hard, but just remember there are tens of thousands of other graduates doing the same things and having the same worries. You'll get through it. Everyone does.

Indeed! When you're a student, you get the feeling that everything is cyclical. The stress you're feeling on a busy week? It's not forever; you have term breaks to look forward to. Clearly, this is not the case when it comes to work/the real world. :(

"I feel like I need to have a career right now when the reality of it is I just need a job that will give me experience that will some day lead to a career."

So true! I guess this is part of how I'm feeling right now.

Thanks so much for the words of advice!

I can't say I'm in the same position, but take your time - you're young and well-educated!

Ah man. ME TOO. Just... all of it. I'm graduating in early May and I seriously have no idea what I'm going to do with myself! There are soooo many things I want to do that I feel paralyzed; what if I make the wrong decision? What if I never make a decision? Plus, I really look up to some of my professors, and I can't imagine what it'll be like not to have classes with them anymore. :(

Gah... I agree with everything you said. I feel partly lost and partly pressured. :(

*sigh* I'd gladly relive my college days over and over and over again. XD

I remember being really sad and scared when I graduated. It'll be kind of hard for a bit, especially getting used to not having those long breaks. ^^; But YOU CAN DO IT!!
