Oscar the Grouch

The most disappointing Oscar night I remember was when "Crash" won best picture. What a complete load of crap that was. I'm still pissed about that to this day ( Read more... )

I have no plans to see it. Ever. Horrible premise.

I was more annoyed when I read that Mickey Rourke didn't win Best Actor. I'm sure that Sean Penn did fine, but I do question whether or not he would have won for that performance if not for the Prop 8 fiasco.

I have yet to see The Wrestler or Milk, so I'm not sure if it was deserved or not. Once I see them I will report.

I actually loved slumdog. And I came out of the movie thinking how awesome the movie was. I saw the movie in a packed theater on a saturday afternoon and was forced to sit in the front row. Usually something like that would have pissed me off, however I got sucked into the movie and thought it was great.

It was no Domino though.

I didn't see Slumdog, so I can't say anything there, but I wanted to punch myself in the face when I saw Milk win best screenplay. Maybe I just sound ridiculous saying this, but I was really impressed by Wall-E. They pretty much made an entire 2 hour story on 3 or 4 lines of dialogue. It's so easy to use dialogue as a crutch to tell stories. It amazed me how Wall-E had mostly bypassed dialogue altogether and still held the average bozo's attention span.

Maybe Milk was really freakin' amazing, and we're all missing out.

Or maybe the Oscars are just a load of stupid media politics to deliver subliminal messages to the world like, "Overturn Prop 8" and "We can do it, America!"

p.s. I just saw Crash for the first time the other day, and I'd like to compare notes. What did you hate about it?

The short version is I didn't think the movie was original at all and it beat the "racism is still alive" horse to death and then some. It was like "okay, I get it. Racism is still prevalent in our country and its not just white people, it's all over. It was acted superbly, but the story and message were old and their take on the message was not new by any stretch. Capote and Brokeback Mountain (two of the other movies up for best picture) were much better movies in my opinion.

Bonus points for you! I agree, that's exactly how I felt coming out of Crash. My sister called me a movie snob.

And while I pretty much watched zero movies that year of the Oscars, I think having seen Crash is all I would have needed to know that Capote and Brokeback must have deserved it more.

I haven't seen a new movie since Jackass 2. OK I did see Dark Knight but I have tentative plans to go see Slumdog sometime this week but I am sure that I would think Saving Sarah Marshall or Step Brothers or Pineapple Express were way better than Slumdog.

Those movies are probably more entertaining (as most comedies are), but Slumdog is good.

I've seen them all.. months ago.. The Wrestler was the best and opposite of Slumdog (riches to rags).

Slumdog went from awesome to terrible from start to finish.

I didn't finish MILK.. it went bad.

Revolutionary Road lasted 15 minutes.. Attention Deficiency Disorder + Kate Winsl

Ask me if you have any questions on who should win next year.. go stealing!
